WizardofOzParticipantConn freshman star Andre Drummond suffered a broken nose and mild concussion during practice Friday, according to sports information director Kyle Muncy.
Drummond, the Big East Preseason Rookie of the Year, will be fitted for a mask Monday and will wear it 6-8 weeks. He has been checked into the UConn Infirmary and will remain there overnight as a precaution.
“This sucks. Mild concussion and I broke my nose. #worstdayever.” the 6-foot-11 Drummond tweeted.
The Hartford Courant reported that Drummond was accidentally hit by freshmanBrendan Allen, who just made the team as a walk-on.
Drummond’s status for Wednesday’s exhibition against AIC remains uncertain.
“We will not rush to have Andre for Wednesday or any target date,” UConn coach Jim Calhoun said. “We want him ready for the whole year, that’s what’s important.
“To rush him back for an exhibition makes no sense if it sets him back. We need him long term more than just Wednesday.”
