I really think Drummond is going to have a breakout year for the pistons!! He is still raw offensively, but he is showin great improvement and has yet to work with the dream. He also has been showing a mean streak in the summer league, to go along with improved awareness on D. I think he will average about 16ppg 15rpg and 2.5 blocks this year. I truly believe he has the potential to be the closest thing to wilt if he reaches that max peak on his ceiling. He is truly a gift from the big man gods from a physical standpoint. I ready for the negs, so let them rain down on me. This is all just my opinion.

They’ll be raining down lol.. closest thing to wilt? Come on now. 16/15/2.5?! I think he’ll break out but those numbers are a bit much IMO. Closer to 13/12/2 is more likely I think.

You speak about negs on almost every thread, it is not that deep. Just post man, if negs are that important to you there is really no point in posting..

Wilt???? No way will he ever be a Wilt. I think Andre can be like D Howard was in Orlando. A dominant defender/interior presence that will be an excellent rebounder and block alot of shots. He’s still learning and has a long way to go on the offensive end and he’ll never be as dominant on offense as Wilt. If he can work on his free throws, he’ll get 16 points a game easy just off dunks and free throws. Imagine when he gets it together on offense!!!

His per 36 numbers (13.8/13.2/2.8 BPG) last year were awesome. The question is… how many seasons will it take Drummond to be disciplined, and stay out of foul trouble, in order to play 36 minutes?

As soon as he can, we’re talking about a fixture on the All NBA Team for years to come.

So you think Andre will lead the NBA in rebounds as a sophomore while playing with both Monroe and Josh Smith because he has dominated summer league?

Do you realize that 15 rpg has been done twice since 2000?

If this actually happen, I think we will all owe you a beer… or at least a cookie bc 21 is looking unlikley atm.

That is double his production last year, and he played 20 minutes per game. I think Andre will be a double double player as a sophomore, maybe 10 ppg 10 rpg. You have to remember he was a 37% free throw shooter last season and didn’t exactly show he’d worked on it much by shooting 33% in Summer League play.

Andre has a great deal of potential, but this is an absurd jump for year two. You realize that 16 ppg/15 rpg/2.5 bpg in the NBA regular season would be more than what he averaged against Mason Plumlee, Steven Adams, and Jarvis Varnado twice? How do you figure Andre Drummond will be better against the guys he’ll be going up against in his own conference? Joakim Noah, Andrew Bynum, Roy Hibbert and Larry Sanders will do a worse job containing him than two rookies and a 6’9” skinny journeyman? No way.

I didn’t neg you, but seriously, these numbers are based on nothing. Andre’s biggest challenge will be controlling his fouls so he can stay on the court. His 36 min adjusted fouls per game pace as a rookie was 4.2 fpg. No player averaged more than 3.8 last season because picking up two early cuts into your minutes, picking out a couple to start the 3rd quarter cuts into your minutes. As a starter Andre was about a 27 mpg player and fouled 3.9 times per game. Detroit would have liked him to play more, but fouling that much forces coaches to make strategic moves in order to keep a player on the court when it matters most. I don’t see a way where Andre can log the minutes that would justify him dropping 16/15/2.5 ( 41 based off last year’s stats ) and I don’t see how he’d do better against NBA starting caliber centers than he did against a the crew he faced in SL.

I’d love to see a player average 15 rebounds, but I just don’t see it happening, for anyone… the only players I see getting close to that mark would be Howard (depending on how he meshes with the team) and Love. I’d love to see Drummond pull in 15+ rpg but I just don’t see it, he has potential to eventually get to that point… but he’s not there right now. I think the 12~13 rpg as mentioned by someone above is more reasonable….. but still sort of an stretch….

ehhhh? honto? I thought he most was 14.2 sorry about that I stand corrected.. I still don’t see Drummond averaging 15 for next season though…

edit: I see in 2011 he averaged 20.2/15.2
and last year was the 14 rpg year but that’s invalid since he only played 18 games last year… haha idk what I was thinking about sorry about that

I love the enthusiasm!! Drummond is a beast no doubt, and is ready to have a big season.

But my god, the closest thing to Wilt???!!! It appears as if u have forgotten about just how dominat Shaq was during his prime. Also, there is no way that Drummond averages 16 ppg and 15rpg this season. He is still way too raw offensively. IMO, Drummond’s season would be considered a sucess if he could put up numbers like 11ppg, 10rpg, and 2.5 blks/game.

I’m a huge Drummond supporter, but please slow down with the Wilt comparisons. Lets just hope that he keeps improving

While I think 15 rebounds is a little high (probably picked it as a nice multiple of five lol), lets not confuse Wilt’s numbers from wayyy back when… with his ability. I’m sure Wilt could probably hold his own but I wouldn’t say he would be dominant against today’s players (although he’d certainly fare better against the current state of big men then some of the last 10-20 years).

So instead of criticizing I am just going to ask for some clarification as to what you meant by the statement “closest thing to Wilt” ?

when I said the closest thing to wilt, I did net mean any big putting up wilts stats across the board. I just meant in terms of height weight, chiseled body type, freakish leaping abilty, speed, agility, and if he developes a good post game Drummond could really dominate todays bigs. todays bigs are so watered down compared to previos generations of bigmen. so with the bigmen today I think Drummond could really dominate these guys today even more than shaq dominated bigs in the 90’s. one thing Drummond has that shaq never did, is freakish athleticism for a man his size. shaq was a surprisingly good athlete, but not like Drummond. another two things I have noticed about Drummond in summer league is he is becoming more mean on the court with how he plays, and his shooting form is looking better. this is basically what I meant by closest thing to wilt.

Drummonds ceiling is Dwight Howard with better ball handling, passing, man to man defense, and steals.

Something around 18 points 13 rebs, 2 ast, 2 stls and 3 blks seems right. Could get up to 22+ points if 1) he becomes the focal point of the offense, ad 2) he gets a good point guard.

Drummond can’t even shoot FTs. He will NEVER be a 20 point scorer because he is never going to be able to score form five feet and out.

But he can still and probably will dominate. The rebound stats above are silly. But he could be 14 and 11 with 2.5 blocks. In fact I’d expect that kind of production. Top side I’d say is 16 and 13. I do think he gets unleashed on the league this year and becomes a force. The only thing holding him back last year was the lack of minutes. He should be better this year because of just experience and age. Probably stronger and more athletic as well. He should still be years away from his physical peak. Scary huh?

Shaq was pretty darn athletic. I will say more so than Wilt or Drummond, but maybe about even with Dwight (and I despise Dwight but Dwight if anything is an impressive athlete). Here are some Shaq rookie season highlights…I don’t think anyone in the league right now compares. His ball handling, passing, post-moves and most importantly coordination all better. The coordination is really the special thing because it allowed Shaq to do and be so much more than the rest of these guys.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DSN1KnAW-Y

The thing none of today’s centers have on Shaq and the centers of the 80’s and 90’s is a developed post game. Shaq actually had quite a few little moves down in the paint and could just totally take over in the paint with brute force (something Dwight and Drummond only show glimpses of). It is going to take a lot of work as a big-man to develop those moves. I’d love to see someone actually put in that work and turn out to be decent because this league is begging for someone to come along and be that dominant (Shaq-like) again.

Shaq, Hakeem, David Robinson were dominant scorers where as Dwight is a good scorer, the post game isn’t as strong as it used to be in the NBA.

Drummond should hopefully get near a double double next year but I’d be looking for development of his defensive game, improving his foul ratio etc as his offensive game can be developed in time and he’ll be fed baskets by the backcourt guys.
