Dre’s a beast. He’s huge, athletic, light on his feet, great hands and a monester defensively and rebounding. That being said everyone knows his deficiencies on the offensive end. I know he’s been working with Hakeem this summer, but for now I don’t think he needs it. He’s got the rest of his career to work on his offensive game. If I was him all I would do is focus on my free throw shooting until he’s an 70-80% free throw shooter. I know that’s asking alot but it is all repetition and with his sheer size and athleticism alone he’s going to get to the line 6-8 times a game easy. If he can focus on just his free throws for the next year imagine how dominant he would be once he gets those down. So glad Joe D drafted him! This makes up for darko!!

just work on free throw shooting till he hits 70% from the line, forget working on his post moves or jump shot… Sheer Genius! I think a franchise should pick you up as Director of player development.

I highly doubt he will ever shoot 70% from the line. Anywhere from the high 50’s to low 60’s is probably his peak IF he can improve.

I totally agree…Shaq only shot 60% from the foul line once in his NBA career and he seems to have much better touch than Drummond. He will be a guy who will have a better career field goal percentage than free throw percentage for his career.

Oddly enough Shaq actually shot 64% from the line as a sophomore at LSU but was never able to duplicate that performance in the NBA. He put in a lot of effort and made a ton of them in practice but it is just different in a game. The people saying he needs to practice til he gets to 75-80% just aren’t being realistic.

Shaq’s 57.5% in his college career was better than his 52.7% career mark in the NBA. Drummond has already improved from 29.5% at UConn to an incredible 37.1% as a rookie. If he improves to 57% for his career I would consider that a win.

70-80% IS asking too much some guards don’t even shoot 80% from the line. More realisticly he’ll probably peak at around 55-70% which is enough for me. He needs to make better use of his strength on offense, we all know that he’s extremely agile and he uses his mobility very well to make shots on the inside but I rarely see him try to power through people and use his strength to be a bully. Right now he’s 75% finesse 25% physical if he can balance it out more he’ll become a much more difficult to guard.

I’m curious as to what people see as his ceiling scoring wise? Everyone agrees he has star potential as a two way player but do you guys think he can develop into a prolific scorer? (20+ppg type guy) Or will he be closer to 15ppg with high efficiency and great all-around stats? In his prime of course…

Drummond is an absolute beast. One of the most talented all-around athletes to come into the NBA in a long time. He has all of the physical traits that a scout would look for in a big-man prospect. With all that being said, I hope to God that he is in the gym this entire off-season working on post moves and free throw shooting. It would be a damn shame if he just coasts on his natural abilities. I hope he takes the initiative and works with a guy like Hakeem this off-season instead of waiting like Amare did. If Drummond can at least become comfortable with something like 2 moves down low and can raise his FT % to something like 65-70% then he will no doubt get more minutes next year, and more importantly will be on the floor at the end of games. I’m predicting that he averages something like 12ppg, 11rpg, 2.5 blks/gm, as well as multiple highlight-reel plays a game.Detroit’s future is bright!

He actually shown some progress in his post moves this game…only thing he to work on his power backing down his players. What I mean by that is that Drummond would take two back down dribbles and not ACTUALLY back his man down. Then after that he still makes himself smaller by doing fadeaway hookshots. I think that once andre start doing that he will realize how close he is to the rim and those will become easy dunks for him.

….to see a redraft in 3 years of his draft. Potential is amazing.

No doubt 70-80% is high for Drummond but by point was for him to really focus this year in practice shooting fts. Tim Duncan was a poor free throw shooter but worked on it and is now respectable. I know Duncan and drummonds game are different but still, its possible for him to almost double his percentage. And you’re absolutely rigt, once he realizes his strength he should just back people down and be the next shaq

I can’t believe the Raptors passed on this guy because they had Jonas already … Terrence Ross is so similar to Derozan and doesn’t add much except highlights

Is it me or does it seem like Hakeem works with about 20 different big men every offseason?

When he catches the ball not in position to finish or get rid of it, awkwardness ensues.
    His instincts are strange.

His motor is non stop he is hounding guards in the backcourt, diving for loose balls and hustling his butt off in a summer league game. He is still a teenager, I truly believe if he gets his skill level up to par with his natural gifts he will be great. However we all know how potential goes, alot of guys have it and very few reach it.
