Amar'e Stoudemire OVERRATED?

Don't get me wrong I like Amare's OFFENSIVE game but I'm starting to believe he is overrated. At 6-10 240, with all that athletic ability I feel like he SHOULD do more. He is completely lost on D (lack of desire can do that) and he never averaged 10 rebounds. Yes he is averaging 21 and 8 but if he doesn't get his touches, he don't contribute at all. That's a major problem for me. I know its other factors too (steve nash has come down to earth, new coach, and new teammates) but like Shaq said MAN UP. Amare shows no desire to improve other than getting a jump shot. He doesn't rebound and is a defensive liability, can we really say he is a superstar or deserve to be on the all-star team? What you think? Or am I missing something?

I Agree

Amar'e is overrated, for a power forward that's suppose to be one of the game's elite big man, he surely doesn't rebound and block at a high rate like you said. I think he's pulling a Vince Carter though, he's playing with less desire this season, so he can get traded. A team like the Chicago Bulls, in need of a big man, could make a push for him. The same goes for Chris Bosh, he doesn't even average a block, on the season, he averaging 0.8 blocks a game, which is sad. Dwight Howard on the otherhand, does what a big man is suppose to do, as evident in his 14 boards a game and almost 4 blocks a game.

dont bash bosh

chris bosh is a man, he could average 4 points in the wrong basket a game and still be legit, dont attack his shotblocking. He and Amare are more power forwards who have been forced into center duty, so id say about a block a game is relatively average for a power forward. I dont think Amare is quite a top tier player, where guys like Bron Kobe and a Healthy Wade get you in the playoffs automatically, I dont think Amare on a bad team would do that. I also think he hates Terry Porter, doesn't mix well with Shaq, and the suns altogether are a hot mess he wants no part of. If he could get himself to the East, watch out. I think it depends on what your perception of him is to say he is overrated. Is he a championship calibur building block by himself, Id say no his game is too limited to be the main guy on a title team. Is he a beast, absolutely. Keep in mind he is still pretty young. The ultimate thing about it is, no matter who you are hating on him, if he was comming to your team youd be pumped.

Playboy Please

To Canesboy6: Don't attack his shot blocking? Bosh gets no blocks and he's suppose to be an elite power forward and suppose to be handed the torch of best power forward in the league, from Tim Duncan & Kevin Garnett. Please!!! Even Stephen A. Smith called Bosh soft. How long have you watched the NBA for? Before Terry Porter & Shaq even arrived in Phoneix, Amare still never averaged a double double in his career so quit the excuses. No one is hating on Amare, I think he's a really talented player don't get me wrong, but he's not one of those players that can lift a team to a championship or even to the Finals, like Kobe, LeBron, Dwyane Wade, or Tim Duncan can. He needs to play with a player better than him, to push the best out of him, ala Vince when he arrived in Jersey, the presence of Kidd made him better. My team is the Cavs and no I would not be pumped for Amare to be on the Cavs because it wouldn't be a good fit. Amare on the Bulls, with Luol Deng and Derrick Rose, would be the perfect fit for him. Amare want to be in a bigger market and wants to be the go to guy and wants his name mentioned with the likes of Kobe, LeBron, and D-Wade, what better place to star in than Chicago, where the best basketball player on the planet played for and the Bulls desperately needs a big man.

Im not hating

LOL... Not at all... I like his offensive game but it stops there. With his old coach, he still was the same player he is today so what are you saying? Im saying he is overrated because he is starting in the All-Star game and people are questioning should D. West (hell GP said Tim Duncan shouldn't be starting and Amare should). I look at what D. West and Amare provides for their teams and I don't see a difference. I've talked to numerous of people and they name Amare as one of the top 2 PF in the game. I just don't see how if he only provides 20 pts. you can get Zach Randolph to do that and get 10 boards. I've heard its because he plays out of postion at Center (prior to Shaq) thats why he doesn't produce more. Then I get its because he doesn't like Shaq or the coach? You can't use that as an excuse. I've watched him get 0 pt. and only 1 rebound in a game he played 35 min. How is that possible from a premier player? Shawn Marion averaged more rebounds than him!! LOL... Bosh is a hound... Very weak so thats the reason for his lack of defense but you can't deny his desire or his ability to hit the boards....

Blocks

Not that i would compare Chris Bosh to Karl Malone, probably considered the best PF in history, or at least top 3, but ol' Karl averaged 0.8 blocks for his career, and had only 3 years over 1 per. And he wasnt too weak or soft if i remember correctly

Not overrated

Amare is not overrated. He is just refusing to play hard since he is not the number 1 guy on his team. I think if amare had more concerns about winnng than he did a bout his own stats he would be the player that everyone sees him (or wants to see him as) I like amare but you guys are right about his work ethic. Amare can be one of the best PFs in the league. To insult chris bosh on his defense when they have jermaine oneal. I mean that is the whole reason oneal is there. Yes bosh is soft, but he can play D when he is motivated.

Amare

Amare is one of my top 3 favorite players in the NBA, but even I am disappointed in his production. He was argueably the best power forward in the NBA the year before he tore his ACL. I think that that to some degree has hurt him, because he is still not nearly as explosive as he once was, but he needs to step up and be the player everyone else in the NBA expects him to be and not someone who is gettine 20 and 8 off of 53% shooting(and dropping). I thought a few years ago that by this time in his his career he would be averaging 28 and 12. Gotta still give him some love though with all those guys he has to share the ball with.

Amare stoudemire is SUPER

Amare stoudemire is SUPER not overrated. He can be a top 5 player regardless of position when he is on his game.

amare's not over rated he

amare's not over rated he said he wants to be a number one option and that he couldn't play with shag taking up space, and he's not the only sun that dislikes the change in offense but he and steve nash are the only ones to say it
take shaq away and he's getting 26 and 12, and probably 1.5 blocks

Amare is pretty good

Amare is pretty good, but I must agree sometimes I question his effort at times. I just look at when he dominated T.Duncan in the playoffs his rookie season. He hasn't progessed as much as I thought he would, doesn't seem like he can dominate like that now. He should try to become more of a complete player kind of seems like he's just a scorer, seems like the elite players in the league can do more than just one thing. He's still a young guy, he's not a finished product yet, but needs to tweak his game just a little to become the true hall of famer that his career numbers lead you to think he is. I am impressed with the way he worked on his game when he was injured and became a much better jump shooter. But he is starting to fall in love with that shot too much, needs to get back to beasting big men the way he used to. But it's hard to say that he's overated, but I will say he is overated just a little. The same way Yao Ming is overated just a little. But if he's trying to get out of the Pheonix market he might want to look at what happened to S.Marion and Q.Richardson, the grass isn't always greener on the the otherside. Yeah it worked out for J.Johnson but thats the exception not the rule.He should think about sticking it out with the Suns because one thing you can say about they're basketball people is they try to give you all the tools to be successful.

Mr. Duke and PostaBoy

First Mr. Duke, Everything you said makes Amar'e overrated. He doesn't play hard since he is not the Number 1 player on his team? LOL... How can you use that as an excuse? Wouldn't it make sense for a superstar to prove he is Number 1 (ala Kobe vs. Shaq)??????????????????? Ok... Now POSTABOY. Like my man Don said Amar'e been this way for a longtime before Shaq. And Shaq said it himself MF's need to MAN UP. The Suns are 4th in the NBA in Points scored. And 6th in the league in Points given up. The problem isn't offense, its Amare and Steve not wanting to MAN UP and play D. If you control the Boards and play D that put your TEAM in position to win a game. Amar'e has the tools (Steve idk) to be a better defensive player and rebounder. Don't blame Shaq. I can't believe vivid fans (i guess not) of basketball would think this is okay for a player to do. I'm not hating on him, just stating the facts....

just because he doesn't play hard doesn't mean he is a bad player. We are not arguing about him being overrated as a teamate. We are discussing wether or not he can PLAY the way everyone expects him to play like. You need to read my post again and then tell me how I said he is overrated. I'm not blaming shaq either. All I'm saying is that if amar'e is motivated he can be dominate. Right now they look to shaq in the post before amare, now don't get me wrong there is no problem with that. I like shaq, and he has been playin great for them lately. I would just like to see amare play hard and this team could be very dangerous.

The subject was "Amar'e overrated"... I didnt say he was a bad player... I said I love his offensive game but...... He doesn't provide anything else for the team. And for anyone to say he doesn't play hard, then call him 1 of the top 2 pf in the league are nuts... Name another player that doesn't play hard and selfish, then tell me if he's a superstar? Then that will tell you if your boy is OVERRATED. If you read my first post I noted that Gary Payton said Tim Duncan shouldn't start in the all-star game but my opinion is should Amar'e? I'm not saying he isn't capable of being a superstar. Just rated higher than he should be.

don, what are you talking about

read alot of your posts, no disrespect, but i have no idea what your talking about Jason Kidd bringing out the best in Vince Carter. His best days were definately with the Raptors, when they were on the brink of bieng contenders in the east and he was the guy, with T Mac second fiddle. The Big 3 thing with Kidd and Carter AND Richard Jefferson never made them competitive in the east, if i recall they might have even missed the playoffs with that group once or twice.
By the Way, Stephen A. Smith is very entertaining but makes his living off saying crazy and extreme things just to get attention. Chris Bosh is not soft just because bieng a banger and a shotblocker isnt his game. He is productive. He doesnt get hurt. Once he gets out of Toronto, which is just a hopeless franchise, I think he will find a setup where he can be the number one or 2 guy on a perennial contender. That Said, I agree, Amare to the Bulls is perfect, and I think the Bulls have young pieces the Suns would be interested in, although the biggest one might be Deng. If he wasn't worth trading for Kobe (anybody else remember that?) i dont see it goin down.

tuck243 you made a good

tuck243 you made a good point about the defense but we knew phoenix couldn't play defense for the past 5-6 years
they won with offense

and now with terry porter trying to change the system to a defensive team with a team consisting of probably one defensive player and that's robin lopez

they can't play together, hopefully ama're gets traded because he is not a defensive player but he does at least try when he's getting his offensive touches

so send him to chicago....for andres nocioni, joakim noah, and thabo seflosha
just don't trade tyrus

i think he will be playing better with d.rose and deng

Terry Porter

I think dude really couldnt stand playing for porter. You could just tell he did not buy into what porter was selling and pretty much implemented "Operation Shutdown" while porter was there. I dont think he has a problem playing with Shaq because he put up crazy numbers with Shaq last season, I think he does have a problem playing with Shaq when the offense runs through Shaq and he is left standing on the elbow waiting to shoot the 15 footer. As soon as Porter was gone and the O went back to how it was last year he started ballin' (until the eye injury). i dont think he is a franchise player because his makeup is to fragile, but he is most def an elite NBA player.
