valentineDerived from the guy that just wrote an essay on Hezonja. And I also just saw Nurkic play who seems really talented, and Pekovic who is another beast.
A lot of times the situation a foreign player is drafted into makes the biggest difference.
Also, the mentality of the player, is he gonna be a bull ready to take on any challenge (Parker), is he talented enoguh that the game is easy and his mindset doesn’t get in the way, meaning his game translates into any league (Kukoc), or is he the guy that misses the touches he got at home and just misses home and hates the American and NBA lifestyle (R. Fernandez).
With the wave of foreign players coming into the league, these are the (European descent) guys whose game and mindset has brought them fame in America (very impressive). Pay homage to the guys that paved the way for them.
I am gonna assign a starter and bench player to each position.
PG – Starter – Tony Parker, Bench – Goran Dragic. (Rubio, if Parker doesn’t count)
SG – Starter – Manu Ginobli, Bench – Drazen Petrovic.
SF – Starter – Peja Stojakovic, Bench – Toni Kukoc.
PF – Starter – Dirk Nowitzki, Bench – Pau Gasol
C – Starter – Arvydas Sabonis, Bench – Vlade Divac
Foreign talent needs to be compared to these guys.

PhillytheKidthats why i said European Descent homie. Argentinians are basically Italians that were too proud to mix genes with the local Natives and kept their pure heritage. Also, Tony Parker is black.

PhillytheKidhave your fun clowns. I know Argentinia is in S. America, which is not the same as Europe.
Most of you all did not realize how close Argentinia is to Italy, which is why they consider themselves above and different from the rest of the S. American countries.
Anyways, carry on. Ima keep on posting interesting stuff.

BogDon_KryptParticipantMy all-euro league is as follows:
PG – JJ Barea with Detlef Shremf as a backup
SG: JR Smith with Darko Milicic as a backup
SF: Linus Kleiza with Joakim Noah as backup
PF: Karl ‘the Mail Man" Malone with Nate "Arbor Day" Robinson as a backup
C Arvydas Sabonis with Toni Kukoc as a backup
That’d be one heck of a team. They’d defintely be a top 3 seed in the East.

raybeasParticipantfrom Italy to Argentina. That’s pretty close.
Lots of Italians and Germans (Fascists and Nazis) moved to Argentina after WWII, so many Argentines consider themselves “superior” to other South American countries.

PhillytheKidfor informing the basketball people on this site whose contributions I enjoy. next question is what generation Argentinian in Ginobli.
I thought he spoke italian with Kobe, but I don’t care enough.
I threw him in because he’s a Euro-style baller, with most likely a completely European genotype, so that qualified for me.
Tony Parker, btw, is African heritage, so how are we calling him European, if his genotype, is full of African genes?
Its not as simple as what continent you are from…it has more to do with what area are you defined by. This is getting too deep…keep on negging.

King CaluchaParticipantI am southamerican, so I know what you’re talking about.
It is true that argentinians are known for having a really high self-esteem (eventhough all the argentinians I know are really humble, hard-working people). I don’t really think it has to do much with the nazi ancestry that you’re talking about. In fact, amongst the 100 most common surnames in Argentina, only 2 or 3 are of italian origin, the rest is spanish. The matter of the fact is that there is a lot of nationalism over there; the same could be argued about Mexico and other american countries… like the US.
Do not repeat what someone told you if you haven’t checked the facts.
PS: Of course, Manu plays euro-style basketball… he played in Europe lol

Memphis MadnessParticipantMy All Time Euro Team:
Starters:
PG Tony Parker
SG Drazen Petrovic
SF Peja Stojakovic
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Arvydas Sabonis
Bench
PG Ricky Rubio
SG Manu Ginobili
SF Toni Kukoc
PF Pau Gasol
C Vlade Divac
Reserves
SF Andrei Kirilenko
PF Boris Diaw
C Marc Gasol
I want Andrei Kirilenko as a reserve for length and athleticism at the forward spots. He was a stat stuffing, dunking, defender in his prime. I like Boris Diaw for passing and versatility. Can’t forget about Marc Gasol either.
The first team has some incredible shooters and scorers with more size and passing off the bench. Manu and Toni are two of the better 6th men in league history.
The bench doesn’t have as many shooters as the first team, but the size is awesome andfeatures some really great passers.

King CaluchaParticipantI’d argue that Marciulionis had a big impact on other Euro/foreign players going to the NBA. He was a solid 6th man for a great team. Jasikevicius was a player that I liked a lot, but he only played a couple of seasons in the NBA.

European BasketballerParticipantSteve Kerr was born in Lebanon.
Carlos Boozer was born in Germany.
Must not be Americans according to some morons here.
Tony Parker was born in Belgium…must not be French then.
Kobe lived in Italy as a kid – must not be American.
Shaq lived in Germany as a kid – must not be American.
There are dozens such examples. It is completely ridiculous and stupid to make up these imaginary rules about a player’s nationality passport, "where they come from", or "who debeloped them", or all this other ridiculous crap.
Stop it people.
It is perfectly fine to say Ginobili is Italian, because he is Italian. He’s Argentine-Italian, and that is a fact. You are disuputing a fact if you say otherwise. He can be considered a European player because he has Italy citizenship, lived their, speaks the language, played there and and is Italian. So saying he can’t be considered from Italy is beyond stupid and is xenophobia stuff at minimun and looks close to racism.

Mr. HookShotParticipantFinally our one and only Dunkin Dutchman gets mentioned. He had a very nice career, versatile big man who could shoot, score and give away brilliant passes. Where it not for his foot problems he might had have an even better NBA career than Divac, although Divac won championships with his country as well (which is impossible considering Smits is basically the only star basketball player we have ever had in the Netherlands).
On a side note: his son Derrik Smits (C, 7’0, 3 star player) committed to Valparaiso next year to play D-1 basketball.

Good call to remember Rik Smits to although I cannot quite get him into a big man rotation.
I was waiting for someone to make a claim for some of the GB Team like Deng who wasn’t born in England but obviously holds an English passport.
I was waiting for someone to try and get Kobe in as he lived in Italy for a few years.

stop being a moron.
Your nationality is not solely decided by what country you are born in.
Some people here must be about 8 years old.
