Lexington news outlet WKYT is reporting Alex Poythress tore his ACL at practice Thursday night.

As a UK fan, this sucks.

As a fan of Alex Poythress as a player and prospect, this sucks even more.

I think that is the hardest part for these young guys, going to the NBA at a young age sets you for life, but might not be the best for your career. Playing longer in college might be better from a player development point of view but doesn’t bring you any money. Staying strong, rehabing and coming back to the game, and most importantly get his degree are most important know…

The majority of these guys have some sort of insurance plan that covers them up to a certain million dollar amount if they never play in the L because of a debilitating injury. Not sure of the exact amount and obviously it wouldnt be the same, but he wouldnt be up the creek without a paddle if he never plays in the NBA.

If this does take away his shot in the league, the good news is that Poythress is almost a 4.0 student and is on track to graduate this year. I think I read that he’s getting a bachelor’s in marketing. Pretty impressive for any student to graduate a year early, especially an athlete. I think Kemba Walker did the same at UCONN.

on another note, I hope we get Jaylen Brown. I want Cal to get a star SF in the league. We already Cousins, Davis, and Wall. I think Booker is the next Klay Thompson. I love MKG, but I lost hope on his offense. He can’t make plays for others, can’t shoot, can’t dribble.

Quite the unnecessary dig at Michael Kidd-Gilchrist if you ask me

he’s the 2nd pick of the nba draft and he can’t shoot. And he plays SF. He deserves it.

He’s shooting .500 from mid range and that accounts for 31% of his total shot attempts. That’s a pretty good mark, puts him in the same company as guys like Kyle Korver and Dirk Nowitzski. He hasn’t attempted any 3’s so far this season, but he has shown that he has shooting touch and that he is smart enough to shoot where he is comfortable from.

It’s always sad to know about young guys getting their dreams almost shed I think he’ll end up pulling a Kyle Wiltjier and get drafted at the late 2nd round in his senior year.

He’ll be one year out and Kentucky will keep receiving All Americans. I don’t think he’ll receive heavy minutes even if the platoon system is still in place. If he doesn’t transfer, he risks being benched.

I like him when he plays with energy, but objectively there isn’t one thing he’s really good at, and that hurts his NBA opportunities.

In cases like these, all I can think of is Da’Sean Butler from West Virginia, a few years back as a Senior Prospect. He really was on pace of making a difference for Senior Prospects as a whole until his injury.

This is a bummer for him, but if he does his rehab and comes back at 100%(as players usually do these days) then I think he is an NBA player. I know that, as a Sixers fan, that I would be happy to give him a chance with one of our second round picks.

He is a great athlete, plays defense, competes, and is geared to being an NBA role player for someone.

Feel bad for him but he wasn’t really looking like an NBA player. His defense was solid, but a tweener who can’t shoot would be behind the 8 ball in the nba.

I wonder where he ranks just based off of pure empirical athletic numbers.  His combine results were jaw dropping.  I feel bad for him.  Wishing him a speedy recovery.
