JoeWolf1You may think a Colorado vs Nebraska matchup isn’t a big deal, but when analyzing Alec Burks I think this is a very relevant game. Doc Sadler’s Cornhuskers play great team defense and on the road Burks will have his work cut out for him. Unfortunately, I just caught the last 2 minutes of the first half, but plan on watching the 2nd half. He’s played well against Mizzou and KSU, but neither team plays half court defense at as high a level as Nebraska. Mizzou plays to Burks’ strengths in the transition game and KSU isn’t a very good defensive team ( at least as of late). He’s 4-8 with 8 points and 4 TO in the first half, I’m curious to see how he plays in the 2nd half.

JoeWolf1Looks like Burks rolled an ankle or banged knees, I hope it isn’t serious, but it doesn’t look like it. Nebraska has totally taken him out of his game. I had a feeling this would happen, it is very difficult to drive the lane against him because their zone double teams so quickly and plays physical. He went 0-2 early, and stopped being aggressive on offense. He had a nice assist out of a double team, but his lack of an outside shot is exposed early in the 2nd.
It’s not that I’m a hater, just a sceptic. I thought maybe I had mis judged him after CU rolled over Mizzou, OSU and K-State to start the Big 12 season, but knew Nebraska’s team D would really challenge him. He’s still fantastic in transition and on the drive, but the dude NEEDS a jumper to be a top 10 pick at SG.
I’m sure he’ll be back in soon as Nebraska is stretching the lead and his injury didn’t look serious.

JoeWolf1Burks is back in the game and has bounced back a bit. He drove the lane out of control, but he did so deliberately, looking for contact. It was a smart move to get his rythm back and it paid off as he hit a wide open 3 shortly after. He is still playing a bit out of control ( 6 TO to 3 assists ), but his length is giving Nebraska guards problems on the glass.

JoeWolf1As Nebraska pulled away Burks got some garbage points in the last minute and a half, he did hit a couple 3 lightly guarded 3’s which was more range than I thought, but to me this is kinda what I thought would happen. If he were to get a pull up 15 footer or be able to shoot off screens he’d be a player that warrants his current draft stock, but he’s 13-18 in my opinon. I was willing to give him another look since I hadn’t seen him since the Georgia game early in the year, but he really didn’t show me any new tricks. 7-17 for 22 points 8 rbs and 7 TO in a 12 point loss that I knew would give him problems.
