Lotto StudParticipantDid Boston do the right thing by giving up on Jefferson so quick? Should they have gotten rid of Perkins instead?

esperanzafleet69Participantgotta say they didnt in the long run, cause al jefferson is better than the shell we call garnett…. but of course getting rid of him did result in a championship….

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantPerkins is a better defender and is the anchor to their defense.
Jefferson is a slow center who isn’t long nor a great defender like Perk. Perkins toughness just fits the Boston Celtics defensive style.

doubledribblerParticipantNo offense, but should this question really be asked? 1 Championship and two finals appearances later…Currently the 2nd best record in the league despite playing all year without a healthy roster and tons of new pieces…In my opinion Boston would have beat the Lakers last year with Perkins. This team has been contending for the championship every year since Garnett has been in Boston and they are still going strong. What did Boston do when Jefferson was there? Lose! Before Ainge swung the huge trades he was pretty close to being fired. Since then a lot of people look at Ainge like he’s a genius and he seems to be in no danger of losing his job.
Even though Minnesota has been an awful franchise as far as management, I highly doubt they would have traded Garnett without getting Al who was the center piece of the trade on their end. If Celtics don’t get Garnett, Ray Allen would not have came over either. Getting Garnett not only put a lot of pieces in motion, but those guys complement each other really well, especially the starters.
Garnett may be a shell of himself, but even in his current form, I would take him over Jefferson. Maybe not long term, but right now. They are basically averaging the same amount of points and rebounds and that’s with Garnett being older and playing fewer minutes, but Garnett shoots a much higher percentage from the field and plays much better defense.

butidonthavemoneyNo way Al Jefferson is a better player than Kevin Garnett.
If you replaced Jefferson with either Perkins or Garnett in 2008, there would have been no championship for Boston.

butidonthavemoneyMinnesota didn’t want Perkins, they wanted Jefferson.
Boston didn’t have a choice. They did what they had to do to get Kevin Garnett.
So to answer your question: Yes.

4th dimensionYour a dumbass memphistyga for even posting this up. Kendrick Perkins had no trade value at that time, Jefferson was the most attractive piece that Boston had to offer, if they kept Jefferson, Boston wouldn’t be where they are now.

esperanzafleet69Participantjefferson is a better player than kg this season, last season, and the season before he got injured…. but the season that kg came to boston and won he was better than jefferson…
look at the stats…
and if u try to say stats dont mean anything and wins do, know that kg put up the same stats that he did his first year in boston as his last year in minnesota…
