He’s balling this year, would you pay him the max? I would say yes for Orlando. THis isn’t a FA destination and some other team would pay him that. Thoughts…

his progress. The year at small forward might not have looked pretty but it definetaly helped him find his balance as an inside out scorer, the 3 ball is dropping really nicely and he even has shown some handles and pull ups. He is not a max player though imo. If Embiid or even Wiggins are the standard for a max contract from that draft class then he is defo a tier under but if Otto Porter got a max contract I cant see why he would get at least close to it give or take 10-20 mill over the length of the contract.

He needs to play smart still but he has shown great progress

Well technically, he’s allways gonna be younger than Kuzma.

Orlando could effectively wait for him to sign an offer sheet and match. That might save them some money instead of giving him a 5 year offer straight up or just offer him what another team would to save him feeling unvalued.

Otto Porter was a max for instance so I’d agree that Gordon should be given his age and upside. His max deal would eat up any cap space they have but they cannot let him walk especially as Vucevic will be a FA in 2019 and could well move on.

He’ll probably get the offer from a young team like PHX or SAC (both places he has ties to with college in AZ and HS in the bay) and Orlando match it. They’ll save themselves a little $ that way with the lower annual raises and no 5th year. Unless they see him really turning into a star going forward then they might be inclined to just offer it up front to massage the agent relationship.

I’d agree with SmooveKrypt – just offer him something around the maximum another team could offer him, no stalling on negotiations so his agents might moan. The Magic can then say well that’s what you’d get from any other team and we’d match it anyway so just resign with us.

Gordon would be mad to turn down $100 million plus over 4 years to sign a one year qualifying deal then.

Ironically I don’t see Sac-town or Phoenix as teams who would chase him unless they saw him as a full time SF given the number of young bigs both have and factoring in Ayton, Bagley etc in next year’s draft.

I disagree with that last part about not seeing Sac-town or Phoenix chasing him. Yes, both teams have a number of young bigs, but that’s my point they are all very young. Pheonix has Chriss, Bender, and Len who are all still developing (and some may never workout, cough Bender and Len cough) Sac-town has Labissiere, WCS. (and some will throw in Giles and Papagiannis in there too) My point is that all 5 of those players are still very young and haven’t figured it out yet. Some or all may never figure it out, it all depends on who those teams want to rely on in the future. Do the Suns want to rely on Chriss and their draft pick this year (Ayton or Bamba, like you seem to suggest), or do they want to rely on a proven veteran who seems to finally figured it out like Gordon? Same question for the Kings. Do they want to rely on Labissiere and WCS long-term or do they want to rely on a proven veteran like Gordon?

He’s not, I dont see him as a Max guy, like Embid or Wiggins that can alter a Franchise, remember when KAt was not on minnesota yet. It was Wiggins  their guy to build around. Hes a complimentray player like Shawn Marion type, a core guy. But a Franchise guy, i dont think so,

He’s improved every year he’s been in the league.   He’s shooting 5 3PT’s a game and making it at a higher percentage than Steph Curry & Kevin Durant.   If shooting was his biggest issue coming into the league, it’s no longer there now.  If you believe Wiggins is a max player and a superstar (I think he’s extremely overrated), it’s no way you should say Aaron Gordon isn’t one or going to be one.   He’s max for sure.

Have y’all watched him this year? He’s efficient as hell and isn’t turning the ball over.

Don’t even compare him to KD and Steph in a GS team,  he’s the guy in a losing team.  Remember it is stil early in the season and that 3pt success rate may come down.  Actually have you watched him on a losing streak they suffered,  although he still effecient feom the field.  His 3pt percentage decreases.  He’s thriving right now on a losing team and hes tje guy dont get me wrong but in a playoff contending team I think hell be the 3rd option.  Now idk if a team is willing to sign 3 to 4 players to a max.  Gordon has improved I know that., but a max guy?  I don’t think he is,  alhough teams will think he is.  He is 2nd tier below the max.

Whether Aaron Gordon is a “max player” in some abstract sense is irrelevant. The reality is some team like Brooklyn is going to offer him the max and force Orlando to match or watch him walk for free.

    He is 22 years old.

He has a young Lebron James’ body

    He can do everything well.

    He has gottten tons better

He will still get way better.

Name a PF you would rather have for the next ten years.

A by max you mean a player who will get 20-25 a year over four to five years.  That is a lot of $, but Steph is getting 35-43 a year so I’ll take 22 year old Gordon all day at that number.
