After watching highlights of Gordon’s most recent summer league game where he got 22 points and 18 rebounds, I couldn’t help but notice his jump shot looks a lot more fluid. Clearly he’s been putting in work to make his shot better. I remember before the draft a lot of people comparing his athleticism and intangibles to blake griffin. I’m saying he will be blake or won’t be blake but he clearly has the skills to become an allstar. What do people think his ceiling can be if his jumper continues to improve? Can he ever be a number one or number two option because right now he looks like a 4th option on a deep youth squad.

Hopefully, he can emulate Draymond Green. They are about the same size, both play the undersized 4 and have unmatched defensive versatility. Gordon’s much more athletic, Draymond has a better shot/

First off, I’m psyched someone posted this topic. I dvr’d the entire game and came away really impressed.

Last week I started a thread about Aaron Gordon: Believer or non believer. Saturday’s game proved why I am a believer. Throw out the fact that it was a summer league game. His shooting form looks legit. He has a much higher release, is more fluid, and he had a couple makes off the dribble as well that I didn’t think he had in his bag.

His build. He looks like he’s been hitting the weights and that gives me the impression that he’s preparing to play a lot of minutes at PF. He looked as explosive as ever and the extra muscle didn’t seem to water down his explosiveness or athleticism.

Chemistry. He has a great rapport with Elfrid Payton. I just think it’s a matter of time before they become a devestating combo. Payton will allow Gordon to do what he does best, and overall will accentuate his strengths to help him become a better basketball player.

I don’t think he’ll be the opening day starter, but I’m going out on a limb that he’ll be in the starting lineup for good after Christmas.

I’ve said it before, and i’ll say it again, right now Gordon needs to block out the angle on his shoulder telling him he’s a SF and embrace the fact that he’s a PF. He’s already a little slow by SF means, and when he actually grows into his body, he’s probably going to be a legit 6’9 235/240. That’s LeBron status phyicallity, but he’s not LeBron. Orlando played him at PF for 66% of his minutes last year, and I like that a lot more than him playing SF. He looked awkward trying to create off the dribble, and he wasn’t as effective on help D because of it, and that’s his calling card in the nba right now.

I think right now Gordon should continue to work on his shot, but should try to play a Kenneth Farried type of game. He’s a high energy, high motor player with great athletic ability, and putting him at PF next to Vucevic would be awesome long term. They could be a great rebounding duo, and Gordon can use his quickness and leaping ability to help cover Vics weak side. I think this is the plan all along, and that’s why the Magic drafted Hezonja.

I think Gordon’s ceiling could be that of a better Farried, and would be surprised to see him put up 14/9/4/1.5/1.5 by his second contract. He’s going to be the 4th offensive option for the Magic behind Vucevic/Dipo/Hezonja so I think his ability as a scorer is going to be limited to just basket cuts, lobs from Payton, and hitting the occacional 3pnt shot. His real calling will be what he can do on the break, and as a rebounder and weakside defender. The person who said he needs to play like Draymond is correct, and I think he could be an awesome glue guy once he puts it all together.

I think he should continue to improve his perimeter skills, because that will only help his game, but I just don’t think he’s going to have much opportunity to showcase it, and that’s why he should stick to his stregths for now

He had potential for a good jump shot before the draft and those numbers is what we should expect. I laugh when I hear people talk ish about him like he is a tweener. Kid has a nice all around game with beast potential. He will constantly get better because he wants to be great. Yeah its summer league but he is gonna have a big season. He was shooting very well from 3 if you paid attention by years end. He was injured so people got to thinking he was not adjusting well. He just needs minutes and he will prove why he was top 3 player in that draft.

Don’t pull that "if you were paying attention" ish man. The dude shot 20%, 13% and 15.4% from deep the final 3 months of the season.

I think Aaron Gordon will develop into what Derrick Williams was supposed to or better, hopefully he continues to work on his jumper.

He’s not getting open looks like that in the season. He’s a leaper and an energy guy at best. He’ll do best to play within himself, work on the jump shot but know that his money isn’t getting made at the arc, but at the rim.

Still think Fran Frashilla had it right when he compared him to Shawn Marion.

Im a big fan of Gordon, he just hasnt really gotten consistent playing time due to the fact his game was so raw being a 1-and-done…. I think he will be getting a lot of time this year though and he will prove why the Magic took him so high. He is super athletic, smart, and even last year showed he could shoot a set-shot 3. I saw the highlights of the summer league game and his over-all shot looks much better.

I really like what the Magic have done (and I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan). We still don’t look like a playoff team just yet, but all our young additions fit in well with each other and management seems to have a vision of what they want to do.

I wasn’t too happy with the Gordon pick when it first happened, but in hindsight I’m ecstatic. Vucevic is a true center albeit limited defensively, but if Gordon fulfills his promise, him Payton and Oladipo can provide defense while Vucevic, Hezonja and Harris can focus on filling the bucket.

Things are looking up in Orlando!

He’s so young it’s hard to foresee where he is in his development. But I can tell you one thing; the kid works his tail off. I watched him on the summer circuit in high school and I also went to a UA practice and the kid works his tail off. I believe he’s still only 19 and his game is still growing. I think he can defend 3’s and 4’s and play on the perimeter at both spots.

I don’t think the Draymond Green comparison is accurate in terms of how they play but I think he can take away a lot of the intangibles that Green brings to a team.

Who is to say what this young man is going to be? That’s the hard thing about some of these young kids entering the league so early. Hard to right them off early when they are just babies in terms of their basketball development.

With all of that said… I am enjoying watching him shoot the basketball because it is an outward expression of the work he has put in. That is what you want to see from a young player. Growth, work ethic, and a desire to get better every year. Great sign.

Orlando has a lot of young talent and in 2-3 years can be really really deep.

with the way the league is playing small, he is perfectly suited to play the 4 ala Shawn Marion in his Phoenix haydays. improved shooting and ball-handling doesnt mean he should play more at the 3. it just actually adds to his versatility and gives him more weapon while playing the 4. really a vast improvement from last year to how he is playing now. He’s more fluid with his movements. i hope he starts. A stat line of 13/7/2/1stl/1.5blk from him is possible this season.
