I just read an ESPN report saying that if the deal is fair, the 76ers would love to have Lin. Im sure this is just a case of them trying to get some longer contracts off the books but it seems weird to get a guy that sould be a starter at the PG position.

It has seemed clear that they arent sold on MCW so could this be a move to help push him too?  Test him and see if he has what it takes to lead a team or see if he folds and gives up his starting spot to Lin?

The 76ers have 29 million is salary and need a big salary to get to the league mandated minimum or pay the league the difference. Lin only comes if Houston needs to cut him to bring in a big free agent and would probably get a first round pick thrown in for taking him off the books. They are in asset building. Boozer and Bargnani are two more players that could have picks attached to remove from their teams books. The Jazz and 76 ers both need a big contract to get to the minimum. Philly is going to have a bright future in 2 years as they had second rounders all projected to go in the first in McDaniels, Grant and Milcic. Noel and MCW play big this year plus Embiid and Saric. They will have high lottery pick next year plus will probably pick up am extra one for taking on a bad contract for one year. Hang in there Philly, things look promising after this year.

Boozer was amnestied so he isn’t helping them reach the minimum..

Lin has been effective with the ball in his hands. He just doesn’t have it put in his hands because Harden is so good and Dwight needs touches in the post (where he is a turn over machine) or he complains.

if i’m philly, i would need Houston to throw in Terrance Jones and 2015 1st rounder to make it happen…getting Jones would then allow them to trade T. Young for a scorer such as Dion Waiters…don’t get me wrong, i like Young and hope that they could keep him but he wants a deserves to be on a team with playoff aspirations so Philly should grant his wish and get something out of it or he’ll be opting out at season’s end.

As a Sixers fan I would love a trade for Waiters, but Thad isn’t enough to get it done, and there is nothing else if value that we could give them other than things that I wouldn’t want to trade.

I think Capela is the trade bait. Memphis was going to draft him to dump Princes salary to Toronto but the Raps went a different route acquiring Noguiera and Williams. Clint could be stashed and if not they can overuse him and make him look like a very valuable asset. Seems like a Hinkie move.

High upside player that can develop in Europe.  Like another poster said they have to spent a lot of money on a player or give it to the league.   I would take that over a late round pick in most drafts, 2014 was a crazy deep draft.

Does anyone know when the League minimum has to be reached?

Is it opening day or when the luxury tax payments are calculated.

If teams know that the 76ers need players to reach a certain salary level then the 76ers will not be in such a strong bargaining position to take salary dumps and get draft picks for doing it.

If the minimum level isn’t calculated until teams have been past deadline day then the 76ers would just take salary dumps then which would be mutually beneficial to them and the dumping teams. The other team gets as much use as they can out of the players and the 76ers would only have to pay 4 or 5 months of a deal as opposed to a full year’s or full season’s deal.
