Embiid has an injury of his navicular bone.  The navicular bone is notorious for having poor circulation.  There is a specific region in the central portion of the navicular bone considered avascular, meaning little to no blood supply.  Blood has all the good stuff that leads to proper healing.

Independent of rehabilitation, poor blood supply and a lot of weight on a foot, means a very slow healing foot.  Current projections have Embiid ready to return to the NBA in 4 to 6 months.

It really depends on how good his circulation is to that bone, and how severe was his stress fracture.  It could be a lot longer.

Initially I thought his stress fracture in his back was due to high impact injuries and would have little to no arthritic consequences.  But this being his second stress fracture may be due to an enhanced beating his frame is taking since he’s been playing basketball at a higher level for a longer period of time.  Maybe his body cannot handle all the impact.

As a Sixer fan, I am glad first of all that Doug Collins has no part in this decision.  I also hope the doctors (the same doctors that performed a physical on Andrew Bynum!!), thoroughly study every joint in that foot.  Hopefully they learned something in the whole Bynum ordeal.  Although its different because Bynum had cartilage damage……………

After reading up on his injury I want no part of Embiid at 3.  We didn’t tank to take someone who might never reach his potential.  Ask Portland what they’d do.  Or Milwaukee who’s had a history of taking bad picks that never pan out and where it sets their team.

I might consider taking him at 10 if he falls to there.  I realize we have a slow-build mentality, but we should not have a slow-build-even-if-set-back mentality.  I think now we should take Noah Vonleh at 3, and Nick Stauskas at 10.

MCW, Stauskas, Thad Young, Vonleh, and Noel would be a very good starting 5.  We are still missing a go to guy.

About the Lakers rumor, MCW was paired with Noel, as they both are form the Boston area and played on the same AAU team.  Both players know each other well.  I don’t think the Sixers will ruin the chemistry thy have in MCW and Noel, as MCW is a proven impact NBA player.

I want no parts of Vonleh. The whole situation with him reminds me of Mike Mamula (to make a Philly cross-sports anology). If Wiggins isn’t there rather take Exum and play him at the 2 and Saric at 10.

I’d take Randle in a heartbeat – even if it’s a bit of a reach.  I think he’s a winner, a competitor and like his motor – sort of a bigger Marcus Smart.

I hear ya man. The thought of taking Vonleh at #3 makes me vomit in my mouth a bit.

is the only one to suggest taking Randle @ 3 and I agree 100%. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago he was in the top 3/4
conversation and he had a heck of a freshman season. Noel, MCW, Randle, and they still have Thad, 10, 32, 39 to move around the draft board and find their future SF & SG. This is a unique opportunity for Hinkie.

I really like Randle but I’m not sure if you can risk taking him at 3 given the issues with his foot..

I’m all for trading the 3rd and 10th to get the player we want if that’s wiggins we do it then use two second rounders to trade back into the first around say take on boozers contract and the 19th pick I’m all for it I want wiggins in Philly!

If Embiid is going to be out for 4 to 6 months then the teams will be looking very carefully at his long term prognosis and with Parker and Wiggins both fit to go we assume then I now see them going as the top two picks. This puts Sam Hinkie in a diemma can he pass on BPA or can they risk another injured big having had Nerlens Noel sit out last season.

If he passes on Embiid then he is onto the next level of players, with MCW in situ, I’d say that rules out Smart. Exum is probably BPA in the next group but would he be as effective as a SG and Vonleh or Randle could be a reach.

If the 76ers medical guys are sure that Embiid can withstand an NBA career and I mean 95% sure or more then the 76ers take a chance on him, if not they take Exum and use him alongside MCW and hope they gel as that would give them their backcourt for years to come.
