Break up the Sixers, lol, this is gonna be an awesome season!! So much talent in the nba now!!
Who said Philly were tanking?
It is only two games but if someone told me Philly would go 2-0 at the start of the season knowing they were playing the Champs the Heat and up and coming playoff team the Wizards I would have laughed.
From what I've seen Philly could best the bulls single season win record
From what I've seen Philly could best the bulls single season win record
Management is tanking..... not so much the players.
the 6ers aren't build for the long haul. Their bench is horrifying. Wroten, Lavoy Allen and eventually Kwame Brown when he returns from injury consist of their substitutes
They aren't built to win this season, once they draft a bunch of players, have Nerlens Noel get healthy and maybe sign someone/make a trade - their bench is going to get much better
Whats happening is everybody severely underrated how much talent the trio of Turner, Thad and Hawes posses. Seriously. And Im not even sure why cause all 3 are young heralded lottery picks who are still years off from theyre prime but already seasoned vets whove already put some memorable playoff performances under there belt. Not only that but theyre all survivors of the brief but intense Doug Collins era who is now infamous for holding players back and coaching to a broken rhythm. Id watch Turner score on 3 consecutive possessions and get subbed out. Id watch Thad or Spence stroke a 3 early in the shot clock but were encouraged and told thats not a shot they should be taking. When Collins asked by a Philly reporter what he thought of analytics Doug responded with suicide saying hed blow his.brains oht if he had to worrh about that stuff.
Seriously had it not been for Collins then Hawes and Thad would of been broken out. Hawes and Thad were both blue chip top 10 recruits in a highly regarded class. The only players ranked ahead of them at there position were Oden and Durant. Thad Young was actually ranked.ahead of Durant before their sr season and arrived at Georgia Tech with a ton of hype based on his athletic profile.and his Jordan Brand Classic MVP performance and beating KDs team. If not for Oden Hawes would of been the nuImber one big man in the country as he entered Washington with an advanced offensive skill set and him and Thad have been productive at every level of basketball. They were both members of Team USA as high schoolers and won gold.
And while Thad does get some recognition and respect for his rare athleticism, versatility, hustle and offensive efficiency its important to remenber hes still young and has never really had plays called for him yet still found ways to score consistently every night in a slow paced iso heavy offense. But if you put Thad on a team that pushes then suddenly the fact that Thad Young is not only one of the best finishers in the league he may be.the leagues fastest forward, and now hes looking like a point machine.
Spencer Hawes may be the most underrated and misunderstood big man ive ever saw. Here you got this skilled 7 footer whose the best player on his coast in high school. Puts up 15ppg as a freshman in a competitive Pac 10. Goes 10th in the draft and averaged 11 n 7 his second year in the league then got hurt.. The skill and talent has always been there. Hawes is 7'1 and can dribble, shoot, pass and play with his back to the basket. Hawes can score from anywhere on the court as a.7 footer and is also a gifted enough passer to run an offense through. He reminds me of Vlade Divac in this regard. Yes that just happened.
Collins just couldnt find time for Hawes in the Sixers loaded frontcourt alongside an old shell of Elton Brand and I cant even remenber who else was there in Hawes first season in Philly but he still avg 7 n 5 and a block in like 19 mpg. He got hurt during the 2nd year but really turn it up in the playoffs. He became like the first 7 footer in franchise history to put.up consecutive 20 n 10 games.during the Bulls series but last year Collins for whatever insane reason started Kwame Brown for.the.first 40 games over Hawes. But Hawes really came on once he.got the starting gig back and by.the end of last year was putting up monster stats.
Over the final 25 games Hawes avg 13 ppg, 9 rpg and 3 apg while shooting 46% from 3 and really got after it.on D. He had.that huge games against Hibbert when he went off for like 18points, 17rebounds, 8aszists and 7 blocks. Twice in the last 10 games Hawes put up atleast 14points, 6ast, 5rbnds, 4blks, 2 stls. He also played in all 82 games last year and his body looked.even better coming into camp this year. Hawes isa guy that has really put the work in to condition his body to get the most out of it athleticallg a.d yoh can really see the.difference by how much easier.hes elevating for blocks and how much better he.is.at holding his position in the paint. Hes really put some noticeable work into his upper body and.hes.now finishing much easier in traffic.
So with Hawes we got an absurdly skilled 25 year old 7 footer whose completely healthy, in the best shape of his life and is now about to be given the opportunity to really show what he can do for the first time so why are people acting like its not possible for Hawes to make a Marc Gasol type leap? We all know big men peak later then the rest and Hawes clearly has every tool in the shed so why isnt anybody anticipating him to breakojt? Hawes will never be a Gasol level defender but hes a good shotblocker whose smart with quick hands who gets steals too.
Im not saying Hawes is an all star im just pointing out that he has more then enough talent to be one. And speaking of all stars l believe Evan Turner will be an all star or will atleast continue playing at an all star level. I anticipate there being around only 4 or 5 first time all stars in the east this year but outside of James, Wade, Anthony, George, Pierce, Deng and Josh Smith there arent any other wings I think you could reason are better then Turner. If your the type to say Derozan or Gay are better I would just say they only got to shoot more shots as they do not posses his intangibles.
Intangibles is the biggest difference in the Sixers core then a team like the Raptors or Wizards. Thad, Turner and Hawes are all also known for being high basketball iq types with great instincts and intangibles and now youre talking about 2 of them in Hawes and Turner who could and likely will continue to fill box scores and put up all star type numbers relative to their position and you can understand why Sam Hinkie has gone out his way to ensure the rest of his roster looked like the D League draft because the overall inexperience is going to kill this team but unless they make another trade theyre veteren trio whove been together for a few.years now and theyre starting to peak will sneak up on teams and finish close games so I wouldnt bet on the Sixers having the worse record in the league I dont ecen think they finish at the bottom of the Atlantic as the Celtics IMO have a much worse off roster. The Sixer
Tony Wroten can play. They have three long wing players who can handle the ball: MCW, ET, and Wroten. And each of those guys is about 6'6.
They need some shooters but other than that they are long, athletic, and scrappy.
