Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIs it just me or is being 6’4″ and 6’9″ disadvantaged sizes?
If you’re a 6’4″ PG, you’re tall for your position, which is good. But if you play SG, you’re said to be undersized. Yes I know, Dwyane Wade is 6’4″, but he’s so his basketball IQ and his athleticism is off the charts.
The same with being 6’9″, you’re tall for a SF, but if you’re a 6’9″ PF, you’re undersized, and if you’re a 6’9″ C, you’re really undersized.
Is it just me or are these 2 heights either the biggest advantage or the biggest disadvantage depending on what position you play.

OhCanada-ParticipantWhy do I care?

sacphil_08ParticipantVery good point… Yeah players at that size have to have a unique skill set in order to make it in the league. D wade is 6’4 i think jason kidd is 6’4 and both of those guys have some unique skill sets. Kidd has masterful IQ, plays great defense, and can handle like an elite NBA pg and d wade has amazing athleticism as well as the heart and emotional fire that wills him to accomplish what he does. Glen davis and kenny thomas are both guys that are 6’9. Glen davis gets it done with heart and grit as well as having soft touch around the rim, and a very wide frame he uses well to create space for his looks. Kenny thomas back when he was relevant, gets off his feet as fast as anyone i’ve seen and it helped him grab rebounds as well as get put backs and tip ins. so yes those size guys are definitely at a disadvantage ON PAPER but if they display the heart and desire to get it done, as we’ve seen it makes it possible for these guys to see success

sheltwon3ParticipantHow is 6’9″ undersized for a power forward I was sure 6’8 was the power forward cut off even though undersized guys with long arms can make it.

SF less than 6`6″ 6`6″- 6`8″ 6`8″+ more than 6`5″ with 6`10+ wingspan
PF less than 6`8″ 6´8″- 6 `10″ 6`10″+ more than 6`8″ with 7’2+ wingspan

ilike.panochasParticipantJust because your 6’9 doesnt make you an undersized PF. You can be 6’9 but if your 255lbs strong like Karl Malone then would you consider that undersize? Now if your 6’9 225lbs then yes, thats an undersize PF. Im a Warriors fan and I would consider both Anthony Randolph and Brandan Wright “Undersize” PF, even though their both +6’10. It all depends on a player’s built, plus a long wingspan helps a whole lot.

Tongue-Out-Like-23Participantmess.eee that’s the entire point of “undersized” I’m not saying undersized if you’re big.. smh.

SpencerIsHawesome2ParticipantDon’t see a big difference to say Ohh well this guy is at a disadvantage because he is 6’9″ but this guy is not because he is 6’10″… One inch does not make a basketball player

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantDid you watch the Lakers vs Celts?
KG is 6’11”.. Gasol is 7’0″
Perkins is 6’10”.. Bynum is 7’0″
Wallace is 6’11”.. Odom is 6’10”That’s 2 inches of total difference in favor to the Lakers.
Gasol, Bynum, Odom: 163 rebounds
Garnett, Perkins, Wallace: 106 reboundsThere you go, there’s your 2 inches.

ilike.panochasParticipantYour comparison with the Boston Frontcourt vs Lakers Frontcourt is not valid. It wasn’t mainly size that gave the Lakers the favor, it was their youth, both KG and Rasheed is no longer in their prime. So your rebounding stats doesnt tell the whole story.
Give me KG and Rasheed in their prime, over the 2010 Lakers front court any day.

NarcParticipantHeight doesn’t always matter in basketball. Sure it helps but a lot of smaller, undersized players are very strong. Take Dejuan Blair…he’s at best 6’6 and has no ACL ligaments, but he’s strong like an ox. I don’t think people realize how strong the muscles in your legs have to be in order to play like that.
An example of a strong, yet undersized guard would be guys like Nate Robinson and Eric Gordan. Nate in particular. Nate’s strength is damn near scary for a guy his size. He jumps damn near 40 inches so with that leap alone its like he’s about 6’0.

SpencerIsHawesome2ParticipantSo you’re sayin the 2 inches was the difference between about 60 rebounds… highly unlikely.
Age, passiveness, weight, positioning, explosiveness, All have MUCH more to do with the rebounding than those 2 inches.
Now, do me a favor, take your index finger and bend it. From your top knuckle to your middle knuckle is typically about an inch. Now tell me if an NBA player who was 6’9″ was thatttt much taller would honestly make him go from being at a disadvantage to either neutral or advantageous.

plasticmanParticipantI think the stigma surrounding 6’3 – 6’5 combo guards may be fading a little bit. There are a whole slew of good young players out there that are about that height…John Wall, Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, James Harden, Avery Bradley, Jerryd Bayless, Jrue Holiday, Marcus Thornton, Stephen Curry, Tyreke Evans…

TRC1991Participantfor the guy who spat out the dumb rebounding thing
height has very little to do with rebounding, sure it helps, but look at yao ming he’s 7’6” and is just an average rebounder and dennis rodman was 6’7” and 220 lbs. but rebounded out of his mind…it is about passion, position, timing, aggressiveness, etc. and sure height helps but rondo’s height didnt help him get 18 rebounds against the cavs during the playoffs

sc0rebuckets11ParticipantIt’s all about the wingspan.
It’s the hottest measurement when it comes to the NBA.
