3 team trade agreed in principle
There are a lot of threads about this but they were during the process of the trade and this one just lays it out. Griz the best of this deal this for this year at least. Detroit gets a true PG on rental and clears cap space that could prove beneficial in the future and the Raps get a guy they think is a franchise player, but I don't.
Though Amir and Ed were somewhat redundant I didn't think they had to give up Davis considering he's been picking up his play lately. And aren't Arthur and Davis redundant as well?
Prince fits what the Griz are doing much more than Gay. Prince is much grittier and plays better D and Daye is bringing much needed floor spacing.
Detroit is drafting a SF this year
Happy to see Prince on a good team again....was strange seeing him on a team not in contention.
Love the trade for all teams really just not sure what Toronto is trying to do with their roster...maybe build around derozan and gay?? Can these guys be foundational players??
Raptors traded their way into a logjam at the wings....And still have Bargnani.
Calderon will fit in great with Detroit, but he's still an expiring contract.
Grizzlies find themselves with 3 solid players who definitely strengthen their bench after the previous trade. Grizz win this one.
I personally don't understand why TO got Gay while keeping Derozan. It seems like they could've gotten a sweeter deal out of this.
I actually think everyone got what they wanted... No one took the bad end of the stick... However, even though I understand the Grizzlies' move and approve of the players they got back, I dont think they get better. im curious to see who's going to be ale to take pressure off of Z-Bo and Gasol... Daye is a shooter but has no where near figured it out yet. They traded Wayne Ellington as their best and only pure shooter. Wroten is a talent and right now serves as a slasher. conley is a facilitator. Tayshaun is not a creator, nor is Tony Allen. Selby and Gay are gone. Are they going to dump the ball down low every play? Who's going to spread the floor?
Trade makes sense all around from my perspective. Memphis want gets potentially 3 rotational players in Tayshaun Prince (likely the new starting small forward), Ed Davis, and Austin Daye. The Grizz also get a second round pick from the Raptors which should be a high second round pick.
Detroit clears cap space by dealing Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye for an expiring contract in Jose Calderon. Plus Jose Calderon has been playing pretty well this season and he should be a useful mentor to Brandon Knight.
The Raptors get Rudy Gay for Jose Calderon and Ed Davis. The deal cements the fact that Kyle Lowry is the Raptors point guard of the future and clears minutes in the front court once Jonas Valanciunas and Andrea Bargnani return from injury.
Prince in a new uniform will be odd
Yeah it will be. The guy gave the Pistons everything he had and even re-signed while they were rebuilding. Going to Memphis should be good for him in some ways they are a lot like the Pistons team he won a championship with. A lot of good players, who work hard, and play good defense. I think this team will help the Grizzlies more than most people think.
The strangest part of this trade is Toronto adding another wing player without trading one away. Now minutes will be split between Rudy Gay, DeMar DeRozen, Terrance Ross, and Landry Fields. They just signed Fields, extended DeRozen, and drafted Ross. They still have Alan Anderson, Linas Kleiza, and Mickael Pietrus as those spots as well. 7 of their 15 player roster are all swingmen.
They definitely need to trade one of their wings. The landry fields signing now looks pretty dumb because he is getting 5 million to be a 4 wing man on a lottery team
what happened to kyle lowry being traded? still kinda surprised that bargnani wasn't involved in this deal... lots of offensive fire power for Toronto.... so im assuming that derozen is going to start at the 2 while gay at the 3?? or small ball look with ross at the 2, demar at the 3, gay at the 4?

Grizzlies get: Tashaun Prince, Ed Davis, Austin Daye and 2nd round pick from Detroit
Raptors get: Rudy Gay, Hamadadi Hubadaddi
Detroit gets: Jose Calderon
Thoughts?
