mbramilanParticipantWell, I’m not a GM, but I am shocked to see drafted these players:
Darrun Hilliard
Juan Vaulet
Arturas Gudaitis
Aaron White
Marcus ErikssonSatnam Singh BhamaraSir’Dominic PointerDaniel DiezCady LalanneNikola RadicevicDimitrios AgravanisLuka MitrovicAnd undrafted:Cliff AlexanderAaron HarrisonChristian WoodJonathan HolmesRobert UpshawBrandon AshleyVince HunterMichael FrazieretcI know that we are not talking about Jordan,Magic,Bird, but I think they are better than the most of the players selected in 2nd round.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/26/2015 - 1:09am #994828
ChoppyParticipantI really expected Frazier, Wood and Holmes to be drafted. Hopefully they will get Summer League and training camp invites.

PhillySteveParticipantGM’s and Owners made a statement by passing on really talented guys like Alexander, Wood and Upshaw. In the era of social media and political correctness, risk of apparent character flaws arent worth a second round pick.

Mr. HookShotParticipantFeel very sad for Michael Qualls; were it not for his injury he would have definitely been picked in the second round. Most surprised about Christian Wood, who I had at the beginning of the second round, and Robert Upshaw, who despite his character has immense talent.
Finally, I also expected Terran Petteway to be picked up; he is a active wing player, who can put the ball on the floor and is a solid shooter. For players like him there is always a place in the league, as he beats out other players purely based on his intensity.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI don’t know a whole lot about most of the foreign players so I will reserve judgement on most of these picks. I think sometimes these guys just get picked for salary cap reasons and the teams have no intention of them actually playing for the team in the near future, if at all. The are just prospects that they can watch develop from afar, and then possibly throw into a trade down the line.
I was surprised at the Hilliard pick by Detroit. I wasn’t expecting him to get drafted at all. Hes a good shooter and decent perimeter defender, but not a great athlete by NBA standards and would seem to have very limited upside. I can think of several players I would have selected over him, but then again I’m not getting paid to make those decisions.
Although everyone wants to hear their name called on draft night, sometimes players are actually better off being undrafted then going in the second round. Gives them more flexibility as far as finding a team.

pokieParticipantAll the undrafted guys are free to sign with any team who offers them a contract. This sometimes means they end up with the squad who has a real need for their particular skill set instead of getting released in training camp by a deep playoff team who really has no room for a late second round pick.

nill650ParticipantI am not shocked about so many intl taken it happens every yr it seems like, but i agree that it is somewhat surprising that fringe 1st round talant like alexander, frazier and wood got b slapt
my only conclusion looking at this short list is almost ever single one of them either has a major flaw in their game requiring d-league time (but they are not spring chickens…like ashley. or they are head cases or at minimum have very poor social skills…
hilliard, pointer lallane and white all had solid seasons coming in, and were leaders on their teams…that is often enough to get you the spot.
there are a ton of guards that get jobs in the league that don’t get drafted…
i expect chasson randle, juwan staten, dez wells etc to all carve a niche and find a roster to jump on.
i kind of like the fact the fact that low character prospects are forced to change,to step up and be a man…most gm’s obviously concur.
