Would you trade the second overall pick for Evan Turner? Would this be an upgrade for Minnesota and whoever the potential 2nd pick is?

I think I would, and that wouldn’t be bad for either the Sixers or Minn.

I’d say 2 and 20 for evan turner and #16… turner was disappointing last year, but he is young and has a lot of promise.. but then the wolves would still need to sign a true veteran to provide some balance for such a young roster..

Which has more value you though, Evan Turner or this year’s #2.

I think Turner has more value than the #2 pick in this years draft.  Turner was the clear cut #2 in a pretty decent draft and there is not really a defined #2 pick in this year’s draft.  Plus Turner played great against the Heat in the playoffs.

to the wolves it would have to be turner.. he’s played in the nba for a year. while williams is very good, turner fills a need (twolves SG spot is awful) and has the potential to be great as well.. his handle, scoring ability and confidence on the outside could be huge… for  the 76er’s they can’t dislike this deal either.. they have iggy already on the wing.. williams could fill quite the hole for them too.. i feel like if the wolves got the 16th pick they could grab a big like motiejunas just for support up front..

    Draft Williams #2

Trade Flynn, Johnson and #20 pick to DET for Hamilton #8 pick and next years 1st rounder.

    Draft Biyombo #8

    Starters:

    PG: Ridnour

    SG: Hamilton

    SF: Williams

    PF: Love

    C: Millic

    Bench:

    PG: Rubio

    SF/PF: Beasley

    SG/SF: Webster

    C: Biyombo

    PF: Randolph

Suddenly the Wolves are no longer so incredibly young. They would have three solid veterans in the starting lineup to go with two all star calliber players at the forward spots. You would have to be optimistic about your team to have three potential laden talents coming off the bench. You could also play Love at the 5 and Beasley and Williams at the forwards to go small, but without getting killed on the boards as most teams do when they opt to go small. Beasley may not be best suited as a starter but rather a spark plug/loose cannon off the bench anyways. This would also take the pressure off Rubio to be a stud from day one. Ridnour is a serviceable PG that can show him the ropes. If your teams biggest weakness is a plataue of Hamilton and Webster at SG then you should win 40 – 50 games.

Wolves would be playoff bound for an early first round exit.

This gives DET an actual PG with some abilities and a nice player in Johnson while getting rid of Hamilton and his contract. They still have a top 20 pick as well. The talent between 8 and 20 is very similar, but Biyombo won’t amek it past GS, HOU and NY.

Why does everyone suddenly think young teams can’t compete?  The Thunder seem to be doing fine.  The Bulls aren’t exactly teeming with veterans whoa re proven winners.  Talent and system win out – not just any vets.

The bulls arent that young, Deng, Boozerand Noah are all veterans, and the Thunder is a different story they have Durant. That changes things. Ultimately it was their youth that lost it for them in the playoffs. Experience helps especially when it is guys who have won play off series/title to help develope the younger players and steer them in the right direction.

Minnesota has so many young assets, if I was in their position, I’d continue on that course in hopes of finding that first banana type player.  I would go for a home run and draft people with potential instead of proven anythings. I’d make moves for Greg Oden, Evan Turner, Avery Bradley and draft Jeremy Tyler, all in hopes of finding an All Star. Williams is not jumping out at me as a top tier guy, Turner exhibited more of that give me the ball and get out of my way attitude. I would try to flip #2 for last year’s #2.

Hoover – It wasn’t their youth, it was their coaching.  Brooks was simply outmatched and he was unable to draw up sets to take best advantage of his player’s strengths, while simultaneously coming up with nothing to hinder Dallas.  Also, OKC doesn’t now suddenly need a veteran.  They just gained experience and, even if they lose again, will continue to do so and very likely eventually win.

How does the Wolves stockpiling assets until they figure out which are keepers in the proper SYSTEM (i.e. not Rambis’ mess) to be winners not work?  Adding vets, who are always more expensive, hinders that and is the kind of thinking that leads you to being in the Bucks conundrum.

     Minnesota , Milwaukee, Indiana

Teams like this are in tough positions, the location isn’t exactly drawing in the big time names. It seems like the only way these teams ever really find success is through youth movements.

I’d say indiana has put itself in a pretty good spot for the foreseeable future with collison george granger hansbrough and hibbert…. ALL of which they got by stockpiling talent (THEY DRAFTED ALL OF THEM). I think they’ve made themselves competitive for now and quite a few years to come…. kahn just sucks… so minnesota pays the price… though i will give him some credit for getting beasely (Who is and will be a star! the guy is 21! i can’t believe people are giving up on him already!!)  for nothing and ditching brewer to dallas for Randolph (who showed a lot of promise finishing off the season)… and milwaukee… well… I don’t pay much attention to them but they did win more than double the games that the wolves did and have a guy named jennings kahn passed on…

Different situation than the Bucks. We are talking about adding one veteran at the weakest part of thei lineup to go with three new rookies to the rotation at C, SF and PG while having possibly the best forward rotation in the game with Love, Beasley and Williams. When you have a rotation of 3 rookies and 3 players just finishing their 3rd year with lots of talent it doesnt hurt to have some constants to help them turn talent into wins so they end up in the playoffs. At some point you have to win and since they dont have their 1st rounder next year might as well get some experience winning now. They would obviously will still be in need of a SG, Hamilton is a temporary fix, which, hopefully, they could grab the SG of the future with DET’s 1st rounder next year since DET will still be bad. Don’t forget, if my memory serves me, when Durant was a rookie they had a number of veterans around him to teach him the ins and outs (Ridnour, Wilcox, Collison, Kurt Thomas, Szerbiak sp?, Earl Watson). This seemed to work for them…

Terrible deal for MN. Turner wasn’t a true #2 pick, last years draft class was one of the worst I can remember.

Like i’ve said on previous threads, If I were MN and 76ers I would do a deal to swap the #2 pick and #20 for Andre Iggy and Phillies #16 pick. That seems like a more reasonable trade. And don’t tell me that Philli isn’t getting enough on this trade….Iggy is not an all star.

Turner is a small forward so no way do i make that trade they need a 2 turner is a point forward and i am not that sure he is overall better than derick williams matter fact turner to the sixers is the reason i hope minnesota doesnt select williams. Everyone likes to go best player available but when you already have that position that normally leads to a trade or someone playing out of position.

Let’s change the format of the question a little bit.

Is Evan Turner a better option then this years 2nd overall pick given what we know about him as an NBA player?

exclude team needs and pretend they only want best player available. Would Evan Turner be the #1 pick this year?

After what we learned about Turner last year?  No, he wouldn’t be #2 this year.  I’d see him in the mix at about 5, as he’s a much better/safer prospect than Vesley.  Actually, I like him more than Knight, as well, but I don’t think that’s definitely the popular opinion given Knight’s athleticism and how in vogue PGs are right now.
