I’ve watched highlights and it seems as if he’s flying out there on the court. Just see some enormous confidence that he plays with, just like with Doncic.. just seems like a special player. The Shammgod, hesi pull-up jimbos, off-the-board assists, he was beasting out there. He’s definitely in my top 5, but I’m not a scout.

I really wanna see what he does against better competition. What he is doing night in and night out, is unbelievable, he has the ball on a string.

    1- Ayton

    2- Porter

    3- Trae Young

Edit: I just realized Trae made it to the top 5 on this website

A couple games into the season, i thought Trae averages would drop and become a little more realistic, like 25pts and 7ast. But i dont see him slowing down, if anything, he’s gotten better as a player!

The real question is why did Jordan Shepherd and Jamuni McNeil combine for five assists off the bench…McNeil is a center so he probably lucked into one but Shepherd had four. He should definitely know better…we might be looking at a coup. More on this when league play starts up.

Just watched some of this performance online and I agree that Trae looks a legit top 10 prospect now. Putting him above Sexton in the mocks was something that people would have carefully considered. Personally I might just favour Sexton but Trae does have a real chance of being first PG taken next year.

The only point I’d want to consider is that Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and Kings all have young PGs and Memphis have Conley so a lot of potential teams near the top of the draft already have PG options.

Although, I agree with you, that has never stopped an organization from creating a logjam in previous drafts through the lottery/first-round.

Minnesota selected 3 first-round point guards in 2009 and kept 2 (Rubio/Flynn). They recently drafted Kris Dunn in the top-5, while already having Ricky Rubio.

Utah selected Dante Exum while already having Trey Burke and Alec Burk.

Boston selected 2 point guards (Smart/Rozier) in back to back drafts.

Atlanta selected Dennis Schröder while already having Jeff Teague.

      —————

Memphis makes the most sense out of any team that already has a point guard within the top-5 of this class.

You know, I wasn’t sold at all on this kid but after watching a few games I’m coming around. He obviously isn’t a freakshow athlete but I think he’s quicker than people give him credit for, his range and quick release are top of the food chain, and most impressive isn’t just his ability as a passer but his willingness. Most scorers are hardwired to get theirs, but this kid gives up open layups to get his teammates buckets. Every game I’ve seen he’s been the best player on the floor and it’s not even close. Personally think that Sexton is incredibly overrated and if I’m choosing between him or Young, I take Young every single time.

    Most Likely.

He definitely has the skill and level of talent to play in the NBA. He’s quick, he can shoot, he has great court vision, and is a solid defender. He knows exactly where all of his teammates are and is willing to pass the ball, obviously. He’s a little high on turnovers, but I expect that due to his high scoring and assist average.

Currently, he is a little small for the NBA in my opinion. He’s 6’2” and 180 lbs, comparable to that of Steph Curry. He will probably gain lots of weight in the NBA, but there’s a chance his first year or two could see him being bullied on defense.

I don’t know though. He definietly has the talent.

Man, I am gonna be PIZZED if the Grizzlies pass on Trae Young (or Collin Sexton) "Cuz we already have Conley."

That’s how we ended up with Hasheem Thabeet that year over Steph Curry or Harden or Tyreke Evans.

Then we will pass on Bamba or Ayton "Cuz we already have Gasol."

I would trade BOTH Gasol and Conley and try to get me AT LEAST two top 5/8 picks.

The wheels are falling off the Titanic and I wanna reload!

Fair points Lgknighted, teams in the draft will often take BPA and if they are a say 25 win team they need whatever help they can get. I’ll certainly accept the point about T-Wolves taking Dunn in 2016 when they had Rubio and Lavine already in situ. Some of the other guys you mentioned were taken further down the draft when it is possibly more BPA.

A lot will depend where Young potentially ends up on the later mock boards, if he is a legit top 5 pick then there will be lots of good players around him and teams may have a bigger need in other positions.

Of the teams I mentioned who have established or good young PGs in situ, if we say Young was at 5th in the draft. I think Atlanta would look elsewhere as they have Schroder as an established young PG and would look to fill other holes. The Kings have Fox and Hill at PG plus Hield and others in the backcourt so they’d pass on Young. Chicago could use Lavine at SF or even if he plays SG they’d have minutes around him and Dunn to fill so they might take him. Dallas don’t have a huge amount of young talent apart from Smith in backcourt so if they liked Young, they could take him and play both or share minutes around.Memphis need depth so could well take BPA, a lot would depend on if Gasol was dealt and Conley’s fitness. Young may not seem obvious for Memphis but he could be 6th man, learn behind Conley etc.

My point wasn’t that these teams wouldn’t take him or Sexton but that their needs might be elsewhere.

The mocks will of course change a lot between now and June, look at how Young has shot up the boards, Porter getting injured, Doncic being the wildcard etc.

Plus one for taking the time to hunt that one down.  Minus one for tooting your own horn…there is nothing wrong with chalk, Andy.

Wasn’t there a bunch of guys saying they wouldn’t go anywhere near him in the draft because of his defense recently?

I don’t know about top 5 just because of how freaky the top prospects are this year, but I am and have always been a Trae Young believer. Really wanted him at Kentucky (swap one of our PGs with him and all of the sudden we’re probably the best team in the country), but I’m Oklahoma bred so I’m not mad at him being at my other favorite school. Dude can ball and I’m glad people are starting to notice…although I don’t think anyone really expected him to hit it like this

I feel like Ayton, Doncic and Bagley are the top 3 prospects in this draft and after that the debate will be between Young and Sexton. Teams may feel Porters potential outweighs those two gaurds production but I personally have never been too high on Porter even before the injury thats just my opinion. He should be considered a clear cut top 10 prospect at this point. 22 assists just put to sleep any doubts I had of him as a distributor and I probably will never compare him to Lou Williams again. The Mike Bibby comparisons should end too.
