After the conclusion of the NCAA season, here are 2 thoughts that I wanted to put on the table and see what people think..

    1. Obviously Duke won the title and they were very deserving but I don’t think there is any question that Kentucky is (maybe not quite "far and away" but close to it) the best college team in the country at the end of the season. Yet they only had 2 votes in the AP Top 25. I know people want to reward Duke and deservedly so but come on, the AP top 25 should have the best team on top and that team is Kentucky, no doubt… I would wager if UK and Duke played 10 times, UK would won 9 if not 10. Anyway, I know its sort of taboo to not put the NCAA champion on top but they vote as if its just a power ranking, not a true top 25. And this comes from a Washington Husky fan (save the jokes about our season!) and I don’t even like the Wildcats.

    2. I hate hyping up kids when they’re so young, but holy s$*#, Michael Porter Jr absolutely oozes potential. Maybe I’m getting to excited but he is pretty tantalizing: he’ll likely finish growing around 6’10” (currently, 6’9”, 190 lbs, 7’9” wingspan) and if he maintains his agility and adds a bit of muscle (both quite plausible) with his handle, jumpshot, and feel for the game I honestly think he’s got a chance to be REAL GOOD down the line, like nba great (I’m sorry for being a hyprocrite about hyping kids up to early but I’m serious about this).

His wingspan measured 6’9.5” at the 2014 Team USA junior National Team mini-camp…

So you think he’s going to add a whole foot to his wingspan? That’d be some Ripley’s Believe It or Not type ish

Kentucky was a team full of great players – the best prospects in the country. Duke (and Wisconsin for that matter) were great teams. Coach K is a far better coach than Calipari and in the final four, where the stakes are raised, coaching matters. Defensive schemes for star players, offensive sets to get the most out of role players – all of these things matter more than just accumulating the best talent. Calipari had a team of great players, but couldn’t coach them to victory. Coach K had lesser talent than Kentucky but got more out of his team when it counted. I can see why Kentucky only got 2 votes.

I think Kentucky was more talented, but I also think disparity is overblown. Duke may have only had 8 scholarship players, but every single one of them was a McDonald’s All American.

Okafor and Winslow with both likely go top 5 in this draft. Tyus Jones is a likely first round pick and an outstanding college point guard.

My source was ESPN on that wingpsan, my bad. Thinking about it now, that is pretty ridiculous and laughable! I stand corrected; all the same, still a ridiculous gifted talent!
