When watching NBA basketball I cant help but get bored sometimes. Mainly its because there is no real competitive nature between defense and offense

    1. I would bring in the 5 second close guarding rule, this will 1) allow more ball movement and 2) make defenses want to get up on ball handlers to force them to attack more

    2. I would take away defensive 3 seconds. This would also help the defense, why would guys have to stay out of the paint vs guys like Fesenko, Joel Anthony and other bigs who cant shoot. Guys like Chandler/Howard get paid to protect the basket and this will help them. It will make coaches have to adjust their offense, so LeBron doesn’t just get to have the  whole side of a floor to attack the basket now he has 2 or 3 guys waiting for him.

This at least gives the defense some more competitive advantage, the offense has so much of an advantage as to why you see guys who have no right scoring 20+ now its easy, it will help the game out in a huge way and we’ll see more 90’s type basketball as I think the rule changes will make it much harder to score, meaning more close games which is what I want as a basketball fan

     1. I would change the rule of calling timeouts when you are on the floor. I don’t think a player should be able to call a timeout when players are on the floor scrambling for the ball. You should have to have clear possession of the ball to call a timeout and not be able to call one while you are on a pile of people.

    2. I would also change the charge rule. I don’t know what I would exactly change about it, but something has to be done because there are too many charges being called with guys just slipping in there at the last second to get a charge call. I feel that the refs have to be smarter while calling charges because they fall for flops all the time. The person trying to get a charge should have to be in their spot for a least two seconds to get a charge, or something like that.

they made a number of changes to help defenses in the 90’s. They also started enforcing stricter hand checking rules to help offenses as well.

I doubt the 5 second rule would have any impact, i mean we rarely ever see it called in college, the ref restarts his count every time the offensive player starts to attack and then backs off again. As for the 3 seconds on defense, i dont have a problem with it. Guys can still stand around and wait, they just cant stand in the paint. That extra couple feet away from the rim will keep from every big man basically becoming a flopping charge taker which is already one of the hardest calls in the sport to make.

a big difference is the shot clock, in college they have 35 seconds so their in no rush to attack, in the NBA if you add a 5 second plus, the defense allowing to clog the lane and force kick outs you’ll see a better brand of basketball in my eyes

the average fan likes Offense, Dunking, and more of both. I cant remember the last time a rule was made to help teams on defense, because the average people dont care about defense. They want to see guys dunking, and if there is defensive 3 seconds, rotations wont be late and you wont see that Griffin-Mozgoving Perkins dunk because Perkins wouldve met him the second he caught it.

I totally agree with the idea because with the atheltes that are in the NBA, guys in the lane arent going to impede them a whole lot anyways and the only big time defensive bigs that would impact the game by camping in the lane are Howard, Bynum and maybe a guy like Chandler or a couple others. Hardly landscape changing.

How about a flop rule? Tired of players that live off of flopping.

I mean the NBA doesn’t need casuals, the die hards out number them anyway and come playoff time everyone is always rooting for someone.

I just feel like it’s too easy to score in the league now, the refs call it too close and it bores me to be honest
