19 Year Old Alex Abrines In Euroleague Playoffs
I just watched the Euroleague playoffs game between Barca and PAO and in this game 19 year old Alex Abrines got some playing time. He is getting to play due to Barca having its first two small forwards out with injuries.
Man this kid.............when I see him play before in ACB and Euroleague, or in the European youth tournaments like Under-20, I just think he is a very good talent, and good player for his age. And that certainly he has a good potential..but not really does he look like a superstar potential.
But I saw him today, and this kid is freaking unbelievably good for his age. Any NBA team that does not draft him is crazy.
I had him mocked in the teens before the season started but all indications are that he's not declaring this yr. He still has 3 yrs left on his deal after this yr and Barca won't just let him go. They don't need the buyout money.
Does not matter for me. I would draft him anyway if I was an NBA team.
Well, him declaring or not obviously matters.
I meant when he declares. Anyway, he should be drafted in first round this year easily. Strange why he would not declare. From how he played today, he would destroy the rookie camps.
He's played sporadically. The problem with signing on to play for a team like Barca is that they have the money to buy anything they want, including buying established players. Abrines has avg'ed, what, less than 10 minutes a game on the season? And he wasn't playing 2nd division ball either so he hasn't shown what he's capable of doing on a consistent basis. I think it's more likely that he becomes a more valuable part of Barca's rotation next yr, has a solid season, then declares for 2014.
to me he is some version of euro Ray Allen....not in way he will be good as Ray, but in playing style/skillset Pitty he didn't get more minutes this season. But tha's problem playing in such big teams who must win titles atll all costs as they invested hige money so there are no space to develope young players
He does lots of things Ray Allen does not. Hustling all over the court, trying to make defensive plays, going after loose balls, playing with lots of energy.
And he has a much better handle and shot creation than Allen does.
And he is not as good a shooter as Allen. I do not see the comparison.
Dang, this guy is a legitimate prospect according to people other than EuroBaller. Now I can't make fun of him
He is Spanish though, if he was Greek Euroballer would be comparing him to Michael Jordan meets Lebron James meets Wilt Chamberlain
He is good, but not anything Euroballer trying to present him. Not superstar potetial, but good prospect without no dobt who if developes properly has his place in NBA as starter
This Barcelona team has tons of young talent in Abrines, Hezonja, Todorovic etc. I think Hezonja is the best prospect but Abrines killed it last night, shame they didn't win the game though. Diamantidis killed them at the end.
"He does lots of things Ray Allen does not. Hustling all over the court, trying to make defensive plays, going after loose balls"
Do you mean Tony Allen?
NBA teams are never desperate for guards. There is a big difference between scouring the globe for big men and guards. There are only so many healthy, athletic, skilled basketball players who are between 6'8" to 7'2" or somewhere in that range. Grabbing the next Rudy Fernandez, Nando De Colo, or Alexey Shved is not franchise changing. Teams aren't kicking themselves for Milos Teodosic and Bobby Brown still playing in Europe. A team that looks at this draft as a wash, one where they can grab two or three undrafted players and possibly come away with one player who turns to be as functional as the guy taken at 30 might be willing to take someone who might turn into a guy and at very least will stay off their roster for a number of years. To say it is crazy though simply ignores the quality and abundance of guards that are in the NBA, on the fringe of the NBA, and all over the globe.
Well this post proves NBA is freaking retarded and incompetent then. Abrines (if he reaches his potential) and Teodosic are much better players than vast majority of what is in the NBA. So if NBA really thinks that way, they are a bunch of morons and don't know anything at all about basketball.
You are talking about a 40.8 percent shooter in the VTB United League and a kid who is shooting 36 percent in the ACB. Teodosic went to London and shot 35.5 percent. Watch an NBA game. Nate Robinson wasn't wanted by anyone this summer and took a league minimum contract, and has 12 games of 20+ points. He has had multiple nights of carrying an NBA team to wins. Martell Webster was given up on by Minnesota, and signed for little more than the minimum in Washington. He is averaging 11 per game and better than 40 percent on 3s, and has been one of their best players. Those are journeymen. It is the farthest thing from moronic to say that the bar for someone a team would be crazy to pass on has to be higher than that of guys they can sign for the minimum. There are no bonus points for going to Europe to find cheap capable players.
PLEASE GET SERIOUS
Teodosic is 50 times the player of Robinson or Webster.
Are you on drugs?
He really isn't.
OK. Yes. Some of you are on drugs.
So he would be 100 times as good if he could shoot 40 percent in the Olympics or Russia? A lot of guys have had very nice careers on high level European clubs and were never anything special in the NBA. Juan Carlos Navarro could have stayed in the NBA, but it did not mean a great deal that he chose to go back to Spain. The league is not missing Rudy Fernadez, Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Zoran Planicic, Bo McCalleb, Bobby Brown, Terrell Stoglin, Spanoulis, or Diamantidis. There are no shortage of good guards. If a team wanted one, it doesn't mean they would be bad pickups. Alexey Shved was not anything special, but he was a reasonably capable young guard whose signing will neither be the reason David Kahn should be fired nor a reason his job should be saved. Pablo Prigioni is past his prime, but certainly helped the Knicks by getting everybody involved and being unselfish. If it was not him, it would have been Chris Duhon or Ish Smith. It does not take away from what he does, but simply points out the reality of the situation. Brian Roberts, Gary Neal, Nando De Colo, and Rudy Fornier have been fine. The success of the Spurs is not determined by Gary Neal or Nando De Colo, but it does not hurt to have them. There is not a single team in the NBA that is not better off having 15 guys capable of at least holding their own on the floor. It does not mean that every capable guy in the world is going to end up in the NBA. Joe Ragland had a great 2-year career at Wichita State, played well in the summer league with the Warriors, and has gone to Spain and been really good for a 23-year old in the top league in that country. I would like to see him get a look by an NBA team, but the quality of the league is not hinging on it. It is not a crime against basketball or racism against Liberians just as it is not racism when a Greek player goes undrafted. Only a fool cannot see that much.
What the hell..............what the freaking hell?
Navarro and Spanoulis are better than 95+% of NBA players. Diamantidis is better than 90%+ of NBA players.
I can't believe how ignorant about basketball the average NBA fan is.
I am sorry, but NBA fans here are just retarded in general.
You must love to troll, or you are just that ignorant.
there are 26 players on two NBA teams. Navarro and Spanoulis would be better than 24/25 of them. Therefore, Navarro and Spanoulis would be the best player on about 12 NBA teams, correct?
So therefore if Navarro and Spanoulis are better than the 2nd best player on every team, that makes them better than Dwyane Wade, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Russell Westbrook, Tim Duncan, David Lee and Luol Deng, in Euroballer's eyes.
Anyone that thinks those players are as good or better than Spanoulis is a joke. Spanoulis is without any doubt a BETTER PLAYER than every single player you listed there.
Not even a single DOUBT - Spanoulis IS better. Not even a debate.
He couldn't even beat out Luther Head and Skip to My Lou Alston for minutes when he was 24 not to mention John Lucas got more burn than him. So how in the the hell can a 30 year old less athletic version of his former self hang with the likes of those future hall of famers?
You saying Spanoulis is better than Tim Duncan and Dwyane Wade is like saying Blaine Gabbert is a better quarterback than Tom Brady. If you think Spanoulis is better than Dwyane Wade you must be the type of person who likes to lick walls.
Somebody metnioned Barcelona prospects. Oriol Pauli is player to watch 6'5 SG 94.. After watching lot of Barcelona B games this kid is most hiden europian prospects, but has some serius hoops. Much more talented then hyped Perez from Spanish team. Nice atheticisam, very good skill set and ballhandling and has that Spanish passion for game. Has lot of upside
pohani is once again telling some nonsense here with his "not that athletic" BULL&$#%#&@!. I saw Abrines steal the ball, run right down the court and dunk the hell out of it, all with defenders right on him the whole entire way. Few, I mean VERY FEW, Greek guards could have the athletic ability to do that.
Georgios Papagiannis (1997, 7’0”, C, Peristeri Athens, Greece)
Long and mobile big man with a huge body and strong hands. His structure is really solid, but he could work on his muscles, losing some baby fat and improving the definition. He lacks explosiveness and leaping abilities, plus he could struggle against quicker opponents due to limited lateral speed. He has good game comprehension and sense of position, making him a really reliable rebounder. He has good shooting range, out to 16-17 feet, but he has to work on his post game, which lacks reliable moves. In fact, most of his offensive repertoire is based on his ability to shoot from midrange and the effectiveness on offensive rebounding, with lots of put backs. A prospect with intrigue but has to work a lot both physically and technically.
Actually, Papagiannis is 7-1.
I would just like to take a moment to +1 Euroballer for giving props and recognition to a young baller who is indeed Spanish and NOT Greek, for once. That is all
What do you mean? I talk about all kinds of players, not just Greek ones.
If you do this again, I am reporting you to Aran.
Lol are you in first grade? Get a life. Calling a GIF that you post creepy is no where near as bad as your racial slurs and name calling towards other members.
If you can't handle that you might as well not even mess with me b/c I will go Mcdunkin on your a$$.
YOU POSTED THE GIF.
I did NOT post it. You posted it and made it look like I did it, and now you are LYING about it.
Do that again and I am reporting you.
Yes Leonard you have been a very naughty boy and if you don't say sorry to Mr Euroballer, you will face the worst punishment in greek law, which is being attacked by a herd of angry goats while a farmer fires feta cheese at you
I never said you don't talk about other players, I said giving props and recognition to players other than young Greek players. For example this is the first time I've seen you make a thread praising a guy who isn't Greek. You normally sound bitter about Spanish players i.e Rubio... but it's cool.. you have your 'own thing'.
That's not true. I have talked good about many players that are not Greek. You are making totally false accusations
I don't troll, I have a life thankyou.
Stop crying dude it's not an attack, I'm just stating observations... If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.. I can live with it.
Rubio was also one of the youngest players to play in the Euroleague... the potential was always there but thats another debate.
At the end of the day your posts are here for all to see... if you've really talked good about 'many' other young guys then name some please. I'm genuinely interested in your opinion.
Someone is editing my posts WITHOUT my permission. They are changing words I typed AND adding gifs I did not put there.
I live in Spain, I'm spanish and i'm a barça's fan. Obviously i watch every barça's basketball game that i can... and I prefer Rabaseda over Abrines... He's ready phisically and mentally. He was undrafted 2 years ago, but if would be a NBA general manager i would invite him for a summer league.... he's NBA ready... the problem? He's 4 years older than Abrines.
The problem if that in Barça is really easy to win more than 1M €, and that's too much probably for a rookie... for example, Lorbek is winning more than 3M €, Oleson more than 2M, Navarro more or less like Lorbek... so i think it's a reason why some young players that do not know wich NBA rol they would have dont leave.
And Tomic is having a good season... i have never believed in him... he is so soft, and has no ever been ready mentally to be a starter in Europe... and despite he's having a good season, he would be a bust in NBA... With Gustavo Ayón next year in Barcelona, he won't be starter.
