Andrew1984ParticipantEvery year we say that a 16 has never beaten a 1, and we usually add that it will probably happen eventually. Every year, the No. 1 seeds feel even more pressure not to be the first to blow it.
It is definitely one of the underrated storylines; every year I enjoy keeping an eye on these four games. A lot of No. 1s have waited until the last four minutes to flip a switch.
I’m certainly not saying it will happen this year, but if it does, which team is likeliest to pull it off?
1. Mount St. Mary’s, 19-15 (NO, then Villanova)
2. New Orleans, 20-11 (MSM, then Villanova)
3. North Carolina Central, 25-8 (UC, then Kansas)
4. UC Davis, 22-12 (NCC, then Kansas)
5. South Dakota St., 18-16 (Gonzaga)
6. Texas Southern, 23-11 (UNC)I will take NCC because they are ranked 22nd in the nation in scoring defense, while none of the other five teams are in the top 50 or so in anything.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantThis is as dominant a group of 1 seeds as we’ve seen. Neither of them are losing opening weekend unless a key injury happens.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantNorth Carolina was easily the most questionable and least consistent of the one seeds this year. I’d say they have the best chance to get upset. However, Id say the odds are extremely long that it actually happens.
2 seeds have been beaten several times through the years by 15s including mich st last year (who many argued should have been a one seed). It’s only a matter of time before a 16 pulls it off.
