Miko4rm206ParticipantLets go ahead and say the Warriors, Rockets, Clippers, Thunder, Spurs and Grizzles are All in the playoff if Healthy. Whos fighting for the 7th and 8th spot in the Western Conference?
Are the Pelicans legitimatly ready to become a annual team in the playoff lead by AD?
Can/Is Dirk, Parsons, and Wes Mathews enough for the Mavs to be back in the playoffs even if they get deron?
What about the Suns they were right there in the mix last season and seem to be at least somewhat improved this season.
I cant lie. I like what the kings did. Rondo has sme good athletes to run in transition with as well as 1 of the best if not the best Center in cousins along with Shooting.
Kobe already said that this current lakers team will make the playoffs. How far fetched is that comment? What if kobe stays healthy. What if Clarkston,Randle and Russell all have decent seasons and roy hibbert can rekindle his old form with Lou, Bass and Young as solid role players?
And you cant forget about the Jazz and Obviously the Wolves bridged that gap to become a playoff team somewhat at least.
WHO will be in the 7th and 8th spot in the western conference?

OaktownWarriorsParticipantIn no order and of course if the teams remain healthy.
Warriors, Spurs, Griz, Rockets, Thunder, Clips…now my last two?
Jazz and NOLA.
Not this season…Kings (front office is a mess and Boogie and Coach Karl relationship isn’t a good one)
Dallas..no bench and slow T’Blazers..could? they have alot of new faces ,so maybe? Suns…With Morris crying like a baby..he may bring that team down this season. And the Lakers would have trouble making the playoffs in the PAC-12, so no! If they didn’t have Kobe, then maybe? Really, he’s a HOF, but he doesn’t develop players on the court. And let’s face it…he’s a ball hog!

Toronto16ParticipantNew Orleans for sure and the Kings or Jazz.
Sleeper pick is the T-Wolves.

Bankroll PJParticipantI’d say the Pelicans and Mavericks.
Anthony Davis is a superstar and still getting better and I think Alvin Gentry is an upgrade as a coach. Rick Carlisle has enough talent for this team to make the playoffs but their biggest question mark is health. Deron Williams is injury prone and both Wesley Matthews and Chandler Parsons are coming off of surgeries.
The Jazz and the Suns will be competing with the Mavs for the 8th spot. Dante Exum is a big loss, but this team still has talent and good chemistry. Unless the Suns get a big year out of Devin Booker, Archie Goodwin, or TJ Warren, I think they’ll just miss the playoffs. I don’t see a lot offense with this team especially with a now unhappy Markief Morris.
The Kings will struggle due to chemistry issues even though they improved their talent level. They also lack a player with veteran leadership which is needed with so many mercurial players.
The Lakers and Timberwolves will struggle as well. They’re both much improved, but the rest of the Western Conference is still much better.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantI have 7 locks to make the playoffs in the west. I have the Spurs, Warriors, Thunder, Rockets, Clippers, Grizzlies, and the Pelicans.
The final spot got tricky due to the fact that Dante Exum have torn his ACL and I expected him to break out this year and left them to the final spot.
Now I believe it’s a two team between Sacromento and Dallas. I have the Kings as my final spot next year

RioRepParticipantIt surprises me how many of you guys believe in the Kings. To me the Kings should be a mess. I think the Pelicans are a lock and the Jazz would be my choice for the eigth spot.

llperezI think there are 6 100% locks and the Pelicans are like a 90% lock. That leaves room for one team and as I’ve been saying for weeks I think it goes to Sacramento. I was really impressed with bellineli every time I saw the Spurs last year, I think he comes in and provides great spacing on the wing. Rondo should have his head on straight and be motivated to wash last years bad taste away. I think wcs is just a perfect fit there and should contribute immediately with his defense and ability to run the court. Then you have to guys in cousins and gay who can flat out get buckets. We are used to seeing the 8th seed need like 48 wins in the west but I think this year about .500 should lock up 8th spot. Those top 6 or 7 teams are each going to get 50 wins and beat up on the rest the conference and I think sac will be around .500 and get that last spot.

SubZeroParticipantMy prediction, which obviously could end up very wrong:
1. Warriors
2. Spurs
3. Thunder
4. Clippers
5. Rockets
6. Grizzlies
7. Pelicans
8. JazzEven though the Jazz basically lost Exum for this season, I still believe they can have a great season. Also, the only reason the Spurs aren’t #1 is because the Warriors won, and they virtually stayed the same so there’s no reason for me to bump them down. Even so, my Finals pick is the Thunder, and not just because they’re my team lol

Stephen A. BaylessParticipantThe Pelicans should make the playoffs but aren’t locks until Anthony Davis shows he can make it through a whole season. He’s missed 14+ games every season and has left several games early. He’s an absolute beast but there’s no guarantee they’ll go 6-0 in his absence again, and across their roster they have several players with injury concerns.
I think Dallas still has to be the favorite from the other group even though health concerns are real. Dirk has scored over 3,000 points the past two years, and has a bit left in the tank. He’s not a superstar or even an all-star anymore but he doesn’t fit in any other category either kind of like Duncan because they can both still dominate a game for stretches. Wesley Matthews was a terrible contract, but that doesn’t mean he is a terrible player. If he’s at least 90% of what he was pre-injury he’s still one of the better 3&D players. Overall Dallas is worse but it’s important to remember they were a 50-win team that competed for a top-4 seed majority of the season. These teams aren’t starting off from equal points.
The Jazz are a popular pick, but Lyles probably won’t add much right away and Exum is out. Exum potential and progression represented the best chance for the Jazz to ascend up the Western Conference. They might not have enough offense to make the playoffs in the West. Several of their young players could make a jump, but I have them 9th.
Phoenix signed Tyson Chandler, and will he look like the late NY version or the Dallas version (Before Dwight Howard eviscerated him in the playoffs)? Can Brandon Knight play as he did in Milwaukee while Bledsoe dominates the ball because he can’t shoot? That really will decide their playoff chances right there.
And that just leaves the Kings. They are my wildcard of the Western Conference Playoffs. If everything goes perfect they could win close to 50 games, and they could also clash heads all across the roster and front office and finish as a bottom 5 team. In this case I will pick somewhere in the middle and give them 35-38 wins.

DolanCareParticipantI’m surprised to see such love for the Kings in this thread. Perhaps my eyes deceive me, but Rondo hasn’t been a great player since his ACL injury in Boston. His disasterous time in Dallas only highlighted the limitations that Rondo had been dealing with for the previous 2 seasons.
The only way the Kings make the playoffs is if Rudy Gay has another great season, Rondo returns to orginial form and they get at least 20ppg btw. Mclemore and Bellinelli at the two. The Kings simply aren’t set up to be a good defensive team, so they need all the firepower they can get in order to put up points.

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantLocks-1-3 in no specific order Warriors, Thunder, Spurs.
Locks-4-6 in no specific order Grizz, Rockets, Clippers.
Last 2 in myopinion is close people.dont forget thw pelicans needed a unhealthy thunder ro make last years playoffs! In my opinion sacramento with its improvements can’t go unnoticed, & the suns added chandler which immediately translates into toughness, and increased winning. My frontrunners for that last spot!
2 more things I remember getting begged for saying the ki g could make it about a month ago, & I Almost blasted you guys before thinking, u guys are all new faces, good to see people recognize the talent & toughness of rondo & cousins along with all their other improvements.
I think I might be in the minority with my opinion on the jazz. Yes they showed significant improvement this past tear, but they still dont have that other scorer to go with Hayward & Favors, also they depth is pretty bad. I hear exum was a good defender, but when I look at his offensive stats his %s were really bad, either way he’ll miss the season, Also the diminutive Burke still hasn’t found his 3 pt shot he had in college. I see 5 players ready to contribute towards the playoffs. Hayward, favors, gobert,Burks, booker, and maybe if hood can improve upon adecent rookie yr and Burke’s steps up they make the race for that 8th spot interesting, but I think 10th is a realistic finish for them. I think 2017 is where we see the jazz make a realistic playoff push.

Rip255You guys are snoozing on Sacramento just because you bought into the over-hypped Boogie vs Karl beef. That made GREAT headlines for media outlets…but it doesn’t necessarily result in wins/losses.
Question: Is Boogie the kind of guy who will play better or worse when he has a chip on his shoulder?
I’m going with better…and by Bubble teams I’m referring to those that could finish between 8th and 10th in the Conference standings. He doesn’t have to like George Karl to play well for him. They might even finish 11th…but I’ll bet they’re ahead of Dallas, Portland, Denver, Lakers, Twolves.
Have another look at Dallas’s roster…..they suck! If Dallas wins more games than Sacramento…I’ll change my username to SacQueens255.
If Boogie has an MVP-type season….the Kings could win 45 games.
If other teams have injuries (inevidible) and the Kings stay injury free (best-case scenario)…they could be in a battle for the 8th seed.
George Karl is a good coach…if not a popular one.

Memphis MadnessParticipantWarriors, Spurs, Clippers, and Rockets are locks. Russ should lead the Thunder to 45 wins by himself. Durant is coming off an injury so he might be rusty some. Those two guys are two of the best in the business when they are healthy. But, other than that, yeah, they are pretty loaded, but so are 10 other teams in the West.
If they start off sluggishly it could be a rough year. Same with Memphis. The Grizzlies were sluggish after the All Star Break. Thankfully we got off to a hot start. It’s happened before too. If we start off slow it could be a really long year. You could be in fifth place won minute, then lose 3 out of 4 and be a game back of the 8th seed.
I WILL count out the Nuggets since I don’t think they have enough shooting. Although a team of Mudiay, Will Barton, Gallo, Faried, Nurkic, and Joey Dorsey should be able to run teams off the court. So they might not even be that bad.
The Lakers don’t have enough, unless EVERYTHING works out perfectly. D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle didn’t floor anybody in summer league, so unless Kobe turns back the clock (by about a decade) the Lakers are basically dead in the water.
Kings, T Wolves, Jazz, and even the Blazers have a shot if they can get off to a great start and then get some great chemistry going. I like Lillard for the Blazers as their go-to guy. I am also a fan of Mason Plumlee and Meyers Leonard. Those two should be tough to deal with.
I think there will be a bunch of teams winning between 40 and 45 games. 43 wins could get you in if there are a ton of teams that basically play .500 ball the entire year.
Even the teams at the top are one major injury a way to really having to hustle for an 8th seed.
Not super impressed with New Orleans. I could see them getting the 6th seed but I can also see them missing the playoffs.
To me, not sure what the Suns are doing. I wonder if they are really struggling into the All Star Break and are a few games back of the playoff hunt, I wonder if they try to do another rebuild.

nill650Participantwow, not crazy about any team being a lock with so many injuries every yr…that being said;
I like clippers to win the west , but i don’t count out gsw and a healthy okc as very strong possibilities.
i think the spurs will still be a top 6 seed, but fail to see how they are still a contender in a faster youthful league.even with the aldridge signing.
I do not like houston as a contender either, but with lawson sober they might surprise me,we’ll see.
i don’t believe the grizzlies are going to advance in the post season this yr, if they even make it in its as a 7 or 8 seed. zbow isnt getting any younger for starters.
i disagree the lakers will be even close to a playoff spot this yr.
i disagree that utah will get in either
i don’t believe in the kings chances…under karl.
