jjonzParticipantIf they do not win it all or make it to the Finals, i think Cuban should blow-it-up. They have 3 untradeable contracts.
BHayward 4yrs 45mill left on deal after this year (9mill per for a Role Player)
Matrix 3yr 25mill left on his deal after this year (8mill per for a Role Player)
Dirk (Can’t trade him he is the Franchise plus he’s checking in @ 20mill per for the next 3years)
Trade Chips RoddyB. Cuban said he would only trade him for a SuperStar. Does he believe Roddy can become a SStar. In limited action i don’t see any SStar qualities, maybe 6th man IO (Instant Offense) type of player who maxes out @ 12-14ppg.
Expiring Contracts JKidd & Jett Both of their contracts are up @ the end of 12. That is an 18mill $ savings. A veteran team looking to get a HOF point guard/& a former 6th man of the year could give up some upside guys or picks.
2 Options
Trade Expiring contracts for 2nd Star. ex Jett/2012 1st pick/Matrix For Jax/Diaw
JKidd/SJax/CBrewer/Dirk/BHayward
or
Tank for 2012 Draft & get a Top 5 pick
ARivers/QMiller/ADavis/JMacAdoo/JSully
A young hungry Stud/teamed up with a grizzlyyy HOF veteran. It worked for the Spurs. This is my choice.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantCan people start linking all those "year of the freshman" draft articles from before the start of this past college season as a reminder?
Dallas is a top six team in the league, and you are proposing the possibility of it be best they be more like Minnesota or Cleveland. Good luck with that one.

sheltwon3Participanta big man contract is not that hard to move. I do think they need to get a solid backup and future point to play behind Kidd.

jjonzParticipantbut is that enough this mavs 5-6 yr run reminds me of BBills in the 90’s. Dirk is 34 he needs some young studs to help him get a title

thunderbear82ParticipantAs long as they keep Dirk the won’t be in the Lottery.

jjonzParticipantcan’t post link but si.com wrote an article about Mavs chocking in the playoffs. & MBarnes said "Warriors showed everybody the blue print for beating the Mavs "Punk them & they will not respond."

kaceyParticipantMavs will always enjoy regular season success, but they will never get over the ‘playoff woes’ they are currently going through until they get another star player. And I mean star player in the sense that Dirk would be the 2nd option.
I’m a Mavs’ fan and Dirk is my favorite player, but too many seasons have gone to waste because Dirk doesn’t have any help in the playoffs.
The team this year is full of veterans that have yet to win a title, so maybe we haven’t seen the best of the Mavs just yet. What sucks for them is that they are playing awful basketball right now, wouldn’t be surprised if they slide down to the 4 seed. Either way, looks like they will be playing the Blazers or Nuggets, which will be a very tough opponent.

jjonzParticipantgotta go feed the Children, if you have a HOF talent you cannot continue to surround him with long-N-the Tooth players who are at the tail end of their careers.

jjonzParticipant1st star could be SJax( I know he’s old 32) but he has defensive chops, is a clutch player who will give you 20+ppg.
2nd option trade Future 1st rnd picks /Jett expiring $$/BHayward/CBrewer For JJohnson’s Massive Contract/ & MWill
Hawks would save $$$
Mavs will have 2nd Star to pair Dirk.

eric palmerParticipantThe Stephen Jackson that is giving the Bobcats 18.5 PPG in 36 minutes a game (as the only respectable scoring threat) will give the Mavs, who already have Dirk, Terry, Roddy-who can score big in spurts, and possibly Butler, over 20 points a game?
Also, the biggest problem with the Mavs offense is that they don’t really have a consistent "easy buckets" guy, and rather just have a bunch of jumpshooters that can’t get to the line…so would adding another jumpshooter–who is very inconsistent and pretty overrated for his shot ( career 42% FG, 34% 3P) that doesn’t get to the line all too much, has declining defense, and would just compound the age factor on the team really be the best move the Mavs could make?

Real Talk Real TrophiesParticipantI’m still a fan of them pursuing iggy but doubt he is on market with the recent success of the 76ers. Mavs are in a tough spot. It will be interesting to see what they do moving forward. I’m guessing the new bargaining agreement with play a large role

khaled_a_dParticipantas a Mavs fan,I am just accepting the fact that we aren’t gonna win it all,and enjoying more 50+ win every season
as BTPH said,no point of rebuilding now and be like Minnesota ,just be careful with the next signings,i.e don’t give TC 6 years contract or even 5,don’t spend Cuban money just for the sake of spending them ,I would hate to start rebuilding in 2014 or so with 3 or 4 bad contracts0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/08/2011 - 9:02am #519299
JimmeredYaWabafetParticipantBobby Simmons and Sean Williams are both in the d league both used to be decent players
