There was a huge spark for South Atlanta in the second half of the final game of the first round at the Dwight Madison Roundball Classic at G.W. Carver.

Orlando Bebee scored all of his team-high 18 points in the second half and scored 10 points on a 14-2 run in the third quarter as the Hornets held off the Volunteers for a 61-57 win on Friday.

The Hornets (9-3) were more aggressive on the glass in the second half, scoring multiple layups on second-chance opportunities. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets scored 10 second-chance points.

Marteveous Favors scored nine points and Devontae Dean scored eight for the Hornets, who will face Anniston at 9:30 p.m. today in the semifinals.

"We obviously had more numbers than they played," Hornets head coach Michael Reddick said. "We were more aggressive defensively in the second half and forced them into turnovers, which got us going."

The Volunteers (5-13) used a 10-0 run to take a 33-25 halftime lead but never got the lead again after South Atlanta's third-quarter spurt.

Justin Norman had a game-high 22 points and hit six 3-pointers. Devon'ta Arrington had 11 points and eight rebounds.

JD used a 7-0 run later in the fourth quarter to pull to within a 52-50 deficit and had a chance to tie the game with less than 1:30 left, but the Volunteers missed a 3-pointer which turned into a Hornet layup.

Reddick said that his defense will carry them through the rest of this tournament and their season.

"We're going to stick to our philosophy on both ends of the floor," Reddick said. "Offensively, we want a lot of movement and a lot of pace. On defense, we like to pressure teams a bit."
