Sheboygan Press Media

Zac Cain notched 20 points and teammate Matt Olig added 16 of his own to lead the Plymouth boys basketball team to a 61-58 home win over rival Sheboygan Falls on Friday night.

The Panthers (4-2, 3-0 Eastern Wisconsin Conference) trailed by two points after the first and second quarter but put up a strong third quarter.

A fourth quarter rally by the Falcons (2-3, 0-3 EWC) fell just short.

Sheboygan Falls was led in scoring by Ross Krist as he had 20 points. Also for the Falcons, Joe VanEngen had 10 points and Austin Madden had nine on a trio of 3-pointers.

De Pere 45, Sheb. South 26

The state’s fifth-ranked boys basketball team played like it, but Sheboygan South’s Conner Harrison gets some kudos for severely restricting the Redbirds’ leading scorer all night.

Conner Harrison hoisted a game-high nine points — nobody on either team scored in double figures — and limited De Pere’s Brevin Pritzl, who came into the night averaging 31.3 points per game this year, to just six points.

“Harrison’s been our most complete player right now,” South coach Mike Rank said, crediting his senior with playing taut defense when he paired up against De Pere’s most dangerous offensive threat.

But the Redwings fell to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the FRCC after a big second half helped De Pere put the game away.

De Pere (3-1, 2-0 FRCC), ranked fifth in the latest Division 1 WisSports.net coaches poll, led by just two points at halftime. The ‘Birds came out stronger after the break, though, holding South to just 13 second-half points to put the game away.

Jordan Beyer, Zack Rabas, Aaron Vopal and Maxwell Huddleston all scored seven points apiece to lead De Pere’s scoring.

Kohler 59, Sevastopol 47

Noah Fink drained 33 points, Lucas Knuth added seven more and the Blue Bombers (2-3) used a decisive fourth quarter to put away Sevastopol and move to today’s championship game of their own Kohler Holiday Tournament.

“He’s had the capability to do that,” Kohler coach Ken Roeder said of Fink’s scoring numbers; “he also hauled in 10 rebounds. "He’s been in a real slump for the first part of the year, so I was real happy for him that he found a way to manufacture some points.”

The game was tied 37-all coming into the fourth quarter, but a 22-10 run over the last eight minutes gave Kohler (2-3) the win.
