Doug McDermott, a two-time All-America forward for Creighton, has sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder and will be out a few days, a person with direct knowledge of the MRI results told USA TODAY Sports Wednesday afternoon.

The person spoke under the condition of anonymity because the school hadn't announced the results. The person also said that McDermott is expected to play in the Bluejays' next basketball game Sunday against Xavier.

McDermott injured his left shoulder in Tuesday's game against DePaul, though he stayed in the game and scored 19 points in Creighton's win. He grimaced in pain throughout the game, but didn't seem too concerned when asked about the injury afterward.

McDermott, the nation's second leading scorer this season and the NCAA's active career points leader, is a national player of the year candidate, averaging 24.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a game for the 13-2 Bluejays. McDermott has scored 30 points or more on five occasions already this season.

Creighton sixth-year senior guard Grant Gibbs also received better-than-expected MRI results Wednesday afternoon. Gibbs was told he dislocated his kneecap and had no ligament damage after injuring his right knee in the first half of Tuesday's game. Gibbs will be out approximately four weeks.
