Recruiting: Crean 'adamant' about wanting HSE's Zach Gunn
Zach Gunn is willing to be patient and see how his recruitment plays out through his junior year.
The 6-6 Hamilton Southeastern forward has five scholarship offers – Ball State, Butler, Indiana, IUPUI and Saint Louis – and interest from a number of other programs. Gunn doesn't have a favorite yet, but is starting to get a better feel for the schools recruiting him.
"I think at the end of this year, I'll really know where I want to go," he said.
Gunn, who averaged 18.0 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots as a sophomore, is getting a look at a few schools this fall. He visited Indiana last weekend for the Ohio State-IU football game, visited Iowa for its football season opener vs. Illinois State and visited Saint Louis in August. He'll also visit Michigan State later this month, he said.
"I've been talking to (Michigan State assistant Dane Fife) a little bit and they are showing some interest," he said. "Well see how it goes."
Michigan has also been in to see Gunn at an open gym. Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State are programs that interest Gunn, in addition to the schools that have offered.

"There's a couple of other offers that I want but I'm fine with what I have," Gunn said. "I have some solid offers on the table and I think a couple more might come as the year goes on. I can't really say for sure but (Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State) could be in the mix. You never know how it will work out."
Gunn said Indiana coach Tom Crean has been consistent in his message.
"He's been texting with me and said he's liked my game since the ninth grade," Gunn said. "He told me I'm getting a lot better. I like as a player when a coach sees that in you. When there's an offer on the table you can consider it. (Crean) has been adamant about wanting me to go there so I think that's interesting. I like that a lot."
Gunn said he also plans to get to Butler for games this season.
"I think they are looking forward to having me up there and to keep recruiting me," he said.
Gunn's style would appear to lend itself to a program that prefers the 3-point shot. Though he's a versatile player, Gunn was 50-for-157 from the 3-point line as a sophomore.
"The 3-ball (style) probably fits me better," Gunn said. "I think in college I'll be playing more on the perimeter and not as much down low. All coaches say you'll fit in my system but you just have to see it once you get there. So you start to get a feel for the guys on the roster and the recruits coming in and stuff like that. This year I'll start to get a better feel for that."
