Chase Jeter's record-setting performance highlights weekly awards

AWARDSCHEF OF THE WEEK

In sports the term “cookin” is reserved for a player who goes on a scoring spree or gets hot during a game and makes big plays on the offensive end.

This week’s “Chef of the Week” award goes to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) forward Chase Jeter for his dominant performance at the Under Armour Elite 24 last week in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Jeter set a UA Elite 24 rebounding record when he grabbed 17 boards to help Team Liberty knockoff Team Freedom, 127-116.

Jeter, a Duke commit, added 15 points in the win and was named co-MVP with his teammate Jaylen Brown.

Record setting? True chef-like behavior.

POSTER OF THE WEEK

This week’s Poster of the Week winner is Wheeler (Alpharetta, Ga.) wing Jaylen Brown for the vicious, barrel-over one hander he threw down at the Nike Global Challenge recently.

Brown took off from the middle of the key just as a defender slid over to try and draw the charge; instead what happened was Brown created one of the top poster dunks of the summer, rising over the defender and throwing down the jam.

Definitely a must-watch.

OH NO THEY DIDN’T!

This award is reserved for the player who turned in a mind-boggling performance or play that left the crowd in a state of shock and amazement.

This week’s “Oh No They Didn’t” winner is Roselle Catholic (Roselle, N.J.) point guard Isaiah Briscoe for pulling off one of the top juke-moves of the summer at a recent tournament.

Briscoe drove hard to the baseline and when the defender cut the baseline off, Briscoe whipped the ball behind his back and brought his off hand up as if her were going to pull up for the jumper.

Immediately, the defender darted up for the block attempt; only problem was Briscoe, who was voted by his peers as “Best Ball Handler”, was doing a hesitation move.

After that, Briscoe blew past the airborne defender for the score.

Well, played.
