Player of the Week
Doug McDermott, Creighton BlueJays
McDermott had a very productive week for the Blue Jays as they put together a very solid week to win the regular season championship. McDermott scored a game high 32 points (12-18 from the field & 3-5 from behind the arc) to help Creighton dismantle the Bradley Bears 80-62 at Carver Arena. Against, Wichita State McDermott put together a memorable performance scoring 41 points (15-18 from the field & 5-8 from behind the arc) and securing 6 rebounds in the huge season finale upset. Doug McDermott is currently ranked 20th in the NBADraft.net 2013 mock draft.
Tyler Brown, Illinois State Redbirds
Tyler Brown remains on the hot list as he put together an impressive conclusion to his college basketball regular season averaging 26.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in the final week to help the Redbirds go 1-1 last week. Brown is displaying some of the potential many saw in him before the season and it will be interesting if he can propel the Redbirds into the Missouri Valley Conference Championship round for a chance for a NCAA Tournament bid.
Anthony Bennett, UNLV Runnin’ Rebels
Bennett has cooled off as of late and over his last six games, he’s only been averaging 8.1 ppg. He’s been battling some injuries and I think he may have hit the freshman wall, although I feel many teams in the WAC have keyed their defenses to stop the freshman. Although, I really think the shoulder injury is causing Bennett some major issues as it’s been reported that he’s having major stiffness and experiencing some mobility issues. Bennett is currently projected to be the 6th pick in NBADraft.Net 2013 mock draft.
All Mid Major First Team
Nate Wolters, South Dakota State
Wolters finished his senior season averaging 22.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 5.7 apg; leading his Jackrabbits to a 22-9 record and 13-3 in the Summit League. Wolters hopes to secure an NCAA Tournament bid by winning the Summit Conference Tournament Championship.
Isaiah Canaan, Murray State
Canaan had a very difficult task returning for his senior season with a young team after losing a lot of players from a very successful Racers team where his team set a school record for consecutive wins. Canaan had to shift to more of a scoring point guard this year and led his young Racer team to a 20-9 record. Canaan averaged a very solid 21 ppg and 4 apg as he carried his young team for most of the season.
Doug McDermott, Creighton University
McDermott Ranks second in the nation in scoring at 23.4 points per game. Led the Creighton Bluejays team to first Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title since 2001. He was named a First-team All-American as a junior and expected to win the National Player of the Year Award for this year. McDermott has scored 30 or more points seven times during the current season. He also scored 41 points on 15-of-18 shooting in MVC title-clincher over Wichita State. Doug McDermott is currently ranked 20th in the NBADraft.net 2013 mock draft.
Kelly Olynyk, Gonzaga University
Olynyk averages 17.7 points and 7 rebounds for a Zags team that has climbed the rankings to No. 1, Gonzaga’s first No. 1 ranking in history. He also shoots 67% from the field and that’s pretty impressive despite him only playing 26 minutes a game. The Zags finished the regular season at 29-2 and 16-0 in WCC and gearing up to make a run in the NCAA Tournament. Olynyk is currently ranked 16th in the NBADraft.net 2013 mock draft.
Mike Muscala, Bucknell University
Muscala averages 18.9 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks for the Bison and shooting 52.3% from the field. He’s led the Bison to a 26-5 overall record and a 12-2 Patriot League record. He’s looking to help the Bison through the conference semifinal match up with Army. Muscala is currently ranked 39th in the NBADraft.net 2013 mock draft.

What a game Canaan had. He practically led the team in his driving seat and when he steered left, they went left, when he steered right they went right. Be interesting to see what happens with the team and this fella in particular over the next few games.
