Buddy HieldBuddy HieldOklahoma’s junior swingman, Buddy Hield opened his 2014-15 season with a bang last week. Hield scorched Southeast Louisiana for 25 points which included a red hot 7 for 7 shooting night from beyond the arc. His long range outburst broke Oklahoma’s school record for three point attempts without a miss, and tied Dusty Hannahs’ Big 12 record, set just last year, for the same category.

Marcus SmartMarcus SmartOklahoma State has been showing signs of life again, and just in the nick of time. Their sophomore point guard, Marcus Smart, has taken the reins and sparked a three game winning streak since returning from his three game suspension. Smart has been a terror on defense this week as well as overcoming some rough shooting nights in order to get buckets when his team needed them most.

Andrew WigginsAndrew WigginsIt has taken to the end of January for Andrew Wiggins to make his first appearance as player of the week, but Kansas’ freshman swingman strung together a pair of great games in wins over #24 Baylor and TCU week. Wiggins capped his week with a career highs in points (27) and assists (5) in Fort Worth, Saturday night against the Horned Frogs.

No Longer Naadir in Headlights

Naadir TharpeNaadir TharpeGuard play, outside shooting, and consistency at the point guard position have been constant criticisms throughout Kansas’ 2013-2014 season. This week KU point guard Naadir Tharpe caught fire and seemingly directly addressed all of these criticisms, and in the process lead his young Jayhawks to two consecutive victories over teams ranked in the top 15.
