By Josh Cochran and Joel Steiner
NCAA Power 16: November 16th

Welcome to our first Power 16 of the 2009-10 season. We’ll be back every Monday with updated rankings and our weekly Games to Watch. Our Power 16 worked in a few glorified exhibitions last week, but the competition heats up this week with several early season tournaments.

2009-10 Mid-Major Preview

It's an odd year for mid-major college basketball. For one, there's a dominant non-traditional team, and it's not Memphis or Gonzaga. In fact, the three best teams not in a Power Six conference this year are a bunch of newer names to the power structure of college basketball. At the same time, there just aren't as many good mid-major teams this season as in years past, and it could be a very good year for fringe power conference teams to make the NCAA Tournament as a result.

2009-10 Big 12 Conference Preview

The Big 12 showcased six teams in the NCAA tournament last year, two reaching the Elite Eight round. As usual, they were one of the best conferences in the nation, and things won’t be too different this year. Kansas is the unanimous #1 ranked team in the country coming into the season. Texas has as much depth as anyone and with a mix of proven returnees and an outstanding freshman class. Oklahoma loses the best player in the country, but still has a very good one in Willie Warren.

Inside the College Game: Top Starting Backcourts

Very few college basketball teams get far into March without having a great backcourt. North Carolina had an outstanding combo with Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington last year, both 1st round picks that took the Tar Heels to the title. This year there are some very good backcourts as well. Some are young and unproven, but could be lethal. Other backcourts are proven with plenty of experience and back for one more shot. Take a look at the top dozen backcourts in college basketball this year.
Patty Mills a Free Agent?

A source close to Patrick Mills informed NBADraft.net late Tuesday that Mills will most likely be waived by the Trailblazers this Friday so that they can sign Nigerian and former Spurs defensive standout Ime Udoka.

That means Mills, who is rehabbing in Oakland right now, would become a free agent.
Sophomore Rankings Updated

While the sophomore class (2012) only produced 4 one and done players in last
year's draft (Evans, DeRozan, Holiday and Mullens) and the class entered college without
much hype, it is quickly developing into an extremely deep and talented class.
A number of prospects have emerged giving this group a lot of intrigue. Look for
this class to represent itself well in the next few (3) drafts with numerous first
round picks.

A: The WUG was a great experience. I was able to travel over to Serbia and see a different part of the world and be able to compete against talented basketball players from around the world. Representing the USA was an amazing opportunity, as well and hopefully I get the opportunity to represent our country again.

superstar prospects at the top in Harrison
Barnes and Perry Jones. Barnes has an extremely mature game plus a great deal of upside left to develop. Jones oozes potential but must develop a killer instinct.
