Extended Mock Draft 1.0

This college season and the 2014 NBA draft promise to be among the best in years. The top pick will likely be a battle to the end. All three of the top players (Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and Julius Randle) have, incredibly, lived up to the hype thus far, and then some. Without further adu here is a look at our first extended mock draft of the year.

NCAA Power 16 Rankings

The 2013-14 season opened in nifty fashion, with the heavily touted double-dip in Chicago last Tuesday night proving to be quite worthy of all the pre-hyperbole – as did the mega-frosh who were on display.

This week’s feature game figures to be the Oklahoma State (No. 7) vs. Memphis (10) in Stillwater that could be re-played a week later in Orlando as part of the Old Spice Classic.

NBA: Sophomore Slump Busters

Oft is made of the woes of a second season for young NBA stars. While still finding their legs, the ground becomes shakier under nubile feet as coaches and defenses adjust to what made some of these youths successful during their introductory seasons. As coaches and defenses figure out players tendencies and dislikes, past rookies are often met with less success during their second seasons.

Big East Preview

College basketball is under way for the 2013-2014 season. The Big East will be very interesting as the season progresses mainly due to the new structure and dynamics of the league. The league retains some of its traditional powers such as Georgetown and Villanova, and due to restructuring has added Butler, Creighton, and Xavier to the fray.

With merely five days of hoops action under our belts, the 2014 big board is just beginning to take shape. Last night’s doubleheader at the United Center was a rare treat for scouts, assembling a perfect storm of talent. The Champions Classic provided stern early season tests for all four squads, and a valuable base-level framework for talent evaluators to build from.

The wait to ascertain it isn’t going to be long.

Tuesday night in Chicago, during as terrific a non-NCAA Tournament double-header as we will have seen in a long while, Michigan State plays Kentucky and Kansas takes on Duke.

Big Ten Preview

Another year of Big Ten basketball is upon us, and the conference again has multiple contenders to hang Final Four and National Championship banners. With the National Runner-Up losing its backcourt nucleus yet retaining two potential lottery picks, Michigan is likely to be in the thick of it come March. Four total teams are in the AP Top 25, with three situated in the top 11 and two other teams receiving substantial votes. Individually, a trio of collegiate from the state of Michigan will have their eye on becoming a lottery pick.

NBA Rookie Watch

The 2013-14 NBA season is upon us and now NBA teams finally have an opportunity to see just how smart their GM's and scouts are as we get our introduction to the rookie class. This year's class enters the league with more questions than any recently remembered as their was quite the scuttlebutt as to who would be the number one overall pick (the honor went to former running Rebel Anthony Bennett) and as to just how deep this year's draft actually was.
