Illinois lands coveted recruit Austin Colbert
Early 2013 Mock Draft
Our first extended mock draft of the season. While this doesn't appear to be a particularly strong draft, the same thing was said around this time last year and a number of rookies are showing signs of becoming stars. Team needs are not factored into this mock and won't be until the draft order is set at the end of the NBA season.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera impresses after Otto Porter injured in Hoyas first contest
Expected to have a breakout sophomore season, Otto Porter did not have much of a chance to make noise Sunday against Duquesne. Porter had a rebound and assist before getting hit in the head with 11:55 left in the first half. Porter did not return and was being monitored for a possible concussion. The Hoyas were still able to get the W as D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had a very strong first collegiate contest, finishing with 19 points on 6-7 FG (4-4 3PT). No news on the severity of Porter's injury, though the initial feeling is that he was held out for cautionary reasons.
Baylor's Isaiah Austin out with ankle sprain
Isaiah Austin had an impressive showing in Baylor's season opening win against Lehigh with 22 points in 17 minutes. The downside of his debut was his having to leave the game after his spraining his right ankle. The Bears did not really need him in their 78-47 thrashing of Jackson State, though after witnessing his offensive prowess, it is obvious they would like him back sooner rather than later.
Big East Preview
Hard to believe this will be the last year in the Big East with the regular cast of characters.
Before leaving, Syracuse looks to have one last run in them for the conference title, with another balanced, deep group of young talent and savvy veterans. Louisville also returns at the top with their suffocating defense and experienced rotation, earning the number 2 ranking in the country. Everyone else in the bunch looks to be fighting for that next spot, as we enter the new year with all sorts of parity. The door is open to anyone that wants to walk through it.
