Matthew Maurer - 6/3/2004
Strengths: Solid rebounder who does a good job of using his size to gain rebounds Shows decent shooting ability from mid-range out to 18 feet from the perimeter Keeps the ball up high and doesnt put the ball on the floor around the basket Not a pure shot blocker but with his long arms and solid timing he can be a presence Plays the game with passion and rarely looks intimidated Shows good touch around the basket Aggressiveness enables him to be a threat on the offensive glass With his size (7-0) and age (18) he projects as a player with good upsize Despite not playing on Partizans 1st team many close to him have labeled him as a gym rat who works constantly to improve Post footwork has improved tremendously this past year Defensively he has quick hands and intensity Smart player who understands how to play defense and not get himself into foul trouble
Weaknesses: Not really an agile player as hes not a good runner of the court Despite his solid mid-range shooting he is a below average free throw shooter Not a great passer as double teams can trouble him Court awareness is still questionable and underdeveloped Competition level has been mediocre as he has yet to play with talent on his level ... Offensively Samardziski is not very comfortable with his back to the basket in the low post ... Lateral quickness really hurts him from becoming a good help defender ... Struggles when playing defense in the post as physical opponents can give him fits ... Lack of upper body strength hurts him from keeping his position in the post, which hurts him in other areas as well such as boxing out and denying position on the blocks ... Doesnt show much court vision ... Not a explosive athlete ... Lack of leaping ability will have an impact on his shot blocking ability ... Like most young players he is still very inconsistent in his play ... Low post skills are still in their developmental stages ...

Stevan Petrovic - 6/22/2008
Weaknesses: Lacks strength in upper as well as lower body and explosiveness for the next level ... Samardziskis foot speed and leaping ability is average (not much of a shot-blocker because he's slow getting off the ground) ... Small hands and wingspan for a player his size ... Poor free-throw shooter ... Has a problem receiving the ball on the low-post; doesnt bend his knees and holds his position well ... Struggles to create position on the low-post against stronger players ... Struggles defensively playing one-on-one (lack of footwork and foot-speed and cant keep up with his opponent) ... Doesnt have much upside.
His father was a former basketball player as well.
