THE BASICS

School: Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 195 pounds

Athletic achievement: He led the Wildcats to an 18-16 record and the Class AAA state title this past season. Lawson averaged 21.3 points, 15.5 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, including 20 points and 11 boards in Hamilton’s 65-62 win over Brentwood High in the state title game. The state’s 2015 Class AAA Mr. Basketball, he was selected to participate in both the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.

Academic excellence: Lawson has maintained an A average.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally with the annual Zach Randolph Thanksgiving Basket Drive and has donated his time to an elementary school literacy-outreach campaign.

THE PRAISE

“Dedric Lawson is so versatile with his offensive game,” said Sherman Jones, head coach of Melrose High. “When he goes to the post he demands a double-team, but he’s a willing passer with great vision so it’s almost always an opportunity for a score. He’s so valuable to the team because he does so much more than score.”

THE FUTURE: Lawson has signed with Memphis.
