Nevada Boys Basketball POY: Chase Jeter

THE WINNER: Chase Jeter

THE BASICS

School: Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward/center
Height: 6-foot-11
Weight: 225 pounds

Athletic achievement: He led the Gaels to a 27-6 record and their fourth straight Division I state title this past season. Jeter averaged 16.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while shooting 67 percent from inside the arc. The 2015 Sunset League co-MVP, he scored 21 points to go with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in Bishop Gorman’s 74-54 win over Palo Verde in the state final. Jeter is a 2015 McDonald’s All-American Game selection and was a member of the 2014 USA U18 National Team that compiled a 5-0 record and won gold at the FIBA U18 Championship last summer.

Academic excellence: Jeter has maintained a 3.86 GPA.

Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society, he has volunteered locally on behalf of the Children’s Heart Foundation and as a youth basketball camp counselor.

THE PRAISE

“Chase Jeter is everything you want in a high school basketball player,” said Bishop Gorman head coach Grant Rice. “He is a leader who works hard on and off the court and is a great example of what a student-athlete should be.”

THE FUTURE: Jeter has signed with Duke.
