THE BASICS

Athletic achievement: He led the Aztecs to a 33-1 record and the Division I state title this past season. The 2014-15 Arizona Basketball Coaches Association Division I Player of the Year, Barcello averaged 19.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 65 percent from inside the arc. He also averaged 17.8 points and 4.6 assists per game in the postseason, capturing First Team All-Tournament honors.

Academic excellence: Barcello has maintained a 4.0 weighted GPA.

Exemplary character: He is a devoted parishioner in his church community where he has volunteered locally on behalf of his youth group and in association with the St. Vincent de Paul Society charity.

THE PRAISE

“In my opinion, Alex Barcello is the best basketball player in Arizona,” said Darren Bustos, head coach at Central High. “On the court, he demonstrated good sportsmanship and more importantly, is a terrific basketball player. He is very skilled and truly understands the fundamentals of the game.”

THE FUTURE: Barcello will be a junior this fall.
